I am spending a week on Eagles Nest #1 near Ely beginning 6/6/15.  I have never fished it, seems like #3 in BearHead may be the best option.?  Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Eagles nest have smelt in them so think open water areas.  Baits that look like smelt are good choices. There are some big crappies in them lakes. I never did extremely well for walleyes on Eagles nests.  Caught some dandy gills and crappies on Eagles nests. Bearhead Lake on the other hand I have caught lots of walleyes. Look to the wind blow shore line breaks the lakes.

Be careful on the lakes lots of rocks. Eagles Nest lakes are clear lakes so low light or after dark would be your best bet for walleyes.

Thanks Moose.  Is Bearhead Lake also within Bearhead State park ?? I am sure Eagles Nest #3 is, but do I need a sticker for Bearhead. ??

Echo the statement about rocks.  On #3 when you leave the boat landing and go west toward the first island, there is a significant rock pile 1/4 way to the island.  Depending on water level it might just be 6" below the surface.  I put my boat up on it, a couple of years ago.  Don't make a straight line to the island. Stay along either shoreline.

An update on the trip to Eagles Nest #2. I was able to catch a good number of walleyes on Eagles #1 and #2. Jigs and minnows, and when we had wind, slip bobbers and leeches. Many walleyes over 20 inches, with the largest being 26.5. Smallmouth were plentiful, and fairly easy to catch on plastics.

Spent a half day on Eagles Nest #3, only one nice eye, and a couple of pike, but it was like a blast furnace, as there was no wind, 80 degrees, and mile high skies.

You do in fact need a park sticker on #3, or Bearhead. As stated by others, rocks, reefs, deadheads, etc. are an issue. One REALLY needs to be careful, and the chip I use was off in numerous areas.

Great area, hope I can make a return trip soon.

Sounds like you had good trip Sculpin!:) There are so many options around in that area for fishing. Hope you did not hit the rocks to hard.
