My family is beginning the process of researching lake property (land or a cabin). We would like to be somewhere with great walleye fishing as well as something that kids can swim in. Thanks!

My family did a similar search just a few years ago. Everyone else in my family lives in the southwestern metro area of the Twin Cities. Our search started up here in Duluth; as this is where everyone wanted it to be, but was too much of a drive just because there really are not that many options around Duluth.  At least when you compare it to something like the Brainerd lakes areas; which is where we ended up buying a cabin. Then once you got north of either Duluth or the Brainerd lakes areas; again the drive got to be a bit much. Probably the most enticing area around here was Vermilion. Last, price matters obviously, but we found that you really couldn't find that perfect place unless you wanted to spend north of 500,000. In the end; after a lot of searching, we found a great place that had most of what we wanted. Even though it didn't have everything.
