A great option for catching early season bass is to throw a wake bait... which is basically a very shallow running crankbait and actually "wakes" or "churns" the water on retrieval. These baits can be burned back to the boat and usually run no deeper than a foot or so below the surface. Something to definitely consider for those targeting bass right now. This presentation is not only effective in triggering a bite, but it's also a great way to cover a lot of water when you're out there in "search mode" trying to find fish. Not to mention you'll see some cool top-water strikes too!

A lot of brands out there for wake baits... most crankbait companies offer one and you might already have one in your arsenal and don't even know it. A few of the more popular ones out there are the Mann's Minus-1 and Baby Minus-1, Storm Arashi Wake Crank, Rapala DT-1, just to name a few. Most tackle stores will carry some type of wake bait option.

I plan to have one tied on for several casts tomorrow morning!
