Swisher rough cut trail mower

Question

Posted

Looking at the 44" rough cut trail mowers. One's a 14.5hp electric start, the others a 12.5hp manual start, $300 more for the 14.5/electric. Anyone have either one, for some information if the bigger hp and electric start is worth it and how either are for mowing?

My thoughts would be that the bigger engine would be the way to go. You should be able to get through a little thicker of material and possibly a bit faster also. The way my grandfather thought- would you buy a 26" snowblower with a 5.5 hp, or spend a bit more and get the 26" with the 8.5hp? Piece of mind if nothing else I guess.

The extra horsepower is good to have cutting the heavier  grasses and small shrubs of trails and shooting lanes but the electric start is something you will probably not use unless you bring a generator with you, unless it uses a battery like a small riding mower.  If you think of using it to mow some of your yard then you need a finishing mower for a clean smooth cut of lawn grasses.
