Thanks for the report. I know it's still ifffy for driving trucks out just anywhere. Where abouts were you finding 14"? I am going out of the north access Sat. am for the day.

We were straight south of the north access, (google maps has it as boat ramp 1) off of sandy beach drive. People were driving full size trucks and fancy houses out last week, now i'm assuming you should have no problem with even more ice.

If you want to SLAUGHTER the really really small perch like in the photo above, let me know and i will join. always wanted to catch the smallest fish possible.

Fished a smaller lake by osakis late yesterday afternoon. was hoping for better weather but a friend and i ended up catching a handful of bluegills. We took a wheeler out because the landing was already pretty rough. fish were tight to the weeds in 9fow. I wouldn't say the bite was tough but you did have to do some coaxing. Toungston with a wax worm was best. tried different plastics with not as much luck. It was pretty windy so the heavier jig helped with feeling the bite. Around 6:00 we went to osakis to target some crappies and went on in mantheys bay. We didn't do very well. Marked fish but they were very slow to move or bite. I think the weather hurt us a little. The ice is in surprisingly good shape for almost April.  Berried the auger to get through and the landing is still good. There were even about six wheel houses out. I herd that its a really late crappie bite but we weren't equipped to stay out past dark.

How  are things looking on the lakes in the Alexandria, Miltona area?

I haven't been out for a little while. Was hoping to try this past weekend but other things came up, like the amount of snow on our sidewalks and drive.

Osakis was real good been fishing that fairly steady for the last few weeks. There were a few roads plowed  out of the public access in Mantheys bay. Minnewaska was another  lake  that has been ok,. It had a few roads areas plowed also. Not sure what the conditions are lake after the last dump Sat probably fairly iffy as I think HOL resort quit plowing and not Sure if Hunts on Waska did also. There was some nice fish to be had on both lakes.

Just a quick ice update.  Briefly fished Le Homme Die on 12/22, didn't catch much.  Popped abut 10 holes and found 6-9 inches of ice.  I'd hold off on driving/bringing anything heavy out while this warm weather stretch is here.

Good Luck!

Just got back from a weekend on Miltona. There were four guys and we got 7 walleye, plus had 3-4 get off the line when reeling up. All nice 16-18 inchers and fat.  You'd go hours without a bite, then get one or two right away, then back to nothing for a while.  Didn't measure the ice, but I would imagine there was 14 inches or so. Didn't have too much trouble driving out, but there wasn't a plowed road and a lot of snow drifts you had to avoid after a long weekend of heavy winds and some snow. The drive there on Saturday was miserable, but we had fun once we got there.

Anybody have an update Chain ice, is it still walkable?  Specifically Le Homme Dieu?  Haven't been able to get up in a while!  Thanks!

I would expect it to be similar to Osakis. I was out on Osakis Wednesday and people were still driving out via the Battle Point access towing large fish houses. There was almost 30" of good ice. The snow hadn't all melted off yet but maybe is by now.

Yeah, I had 18+ inches everywhere I checked.  Could only find a few small perch, but it was nice to be out!

On the lake we fished Sunday NW of Alexandria there was plenty of ice some trucks out and I was almost in the water cutting holes with my K-Drill. She was amazeingly thick.

I haven't been out too much but did make it out on Lake Geneva a couple times in the last 10 days or so. My primary target has been walleye and my success there has been poor at best but jigging leeches in 22' of water off weed edges along sharp breaks was producing large mouth bass so I played with them for a while. Then I decided to try out a hump on the south end of the lake and after loosing a few leeches to short bites, I downsized and started catching sunfish. I went through the rest of my leeches and then turned to a container of night crawlers I had along. Put on a flu-flu jig tipped with with a small piece of crawler (about 1" long) and before I was done I used up all my crawlers. Quite a few smaller ones but there were also a few in the 9" - 10" range. I didn't bring any home so they're still out there for the catching.😃

Fished the north end of Osakis last Wednesday, Nov. 15th. Took about an hour to find the crappies. They didn't want a small hard bait trolled through them but a jig and chunk of half-rotten crawler did the trick. Kept 8. Five were 10 1/2", the other three a little smaller.

Quick update: Lucky 7 now has rainbows, fatheads, crappie and light pike in stock. If I remember correctly, scoop of rainbows was $8.99.  Stopped at L&M in Virginia. Rainbows $6.99, fatheads and crappie minnows (scoop) $3.99. I was billed $6.99 dozen for rainbows, but was given a healthy scoop!

I have had the same old Strikemaster augers for years, take care of them and they will last a long time.   I think E-augers are nice for around home lakes or at the cabin. The thing that was a eye opener to me was being in D-Rock in New Brighton getting new blades and there were two guys that just got back from a week in Canada on a big ice fishing trip and both very pissed off at their e-augers dying! They were both buying new gas augers.

On the south end...   Things are shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener which takes place Saturday, May 11th.  Recent rain has brought up the water levels, which were low.  The walleyes and saugers are in very good shape across the south shore.  Expectations are high. The goto presentation this weekend will be a jig and frozen emerald shiner or other kind of minnow.  Emerald shiners are a staple in LOW and walleyes love them.     Hook the shiner through the mouth and out the gill.  Push the minnow all the way up to the jig head and hook the minnow as far back as possible.  This will give you a better hooking percentage.     Jig sizes and colors?  This is stained water so you can get away with a big heavier jig, which is nice for those who don't fish a lot.  It enables them to have more control and feel the bottom.  A quarter ounce jig is a good size for starters.     In stained water, gold, glow white, glow red, pink, orange and chartreuse, or a combo of those colors, are great places to start.   The limit of walleyes and saugers is a combined limit of six fish, up to four of the six can be walleyes.  All walleyes between 19.5 - 28.0 inches must be released.  One fish over 28.0 inches can be kept.  The possession limit in MN is one daily limit of fish. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, there will be some good pike caught this weekend.  The pike season on LOW is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one fish allowed more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. On the Rainy River...  Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River has been excellent.  The catch and release season is May 8 - 15.  The keep season starts up again July 1st. FYI, there will be some nice walleyes in the Rainy River for the fishing opener.  Lots of sturgeon anglers are reporting big walleyes being caught on sturgeon rigs! Up at the NW Angle...  Angle resorts are ready to roll for the opener.  As many of you know, this is the area of LOW where the islands begin.  Lots of structure.     Go to spots for walleyes, neck down areas, shoreline breaks, points and bays which will have warmer water.  In true NW Angle form, be ready for a mixed bag of fish.  In addition to walleyes and saugers, pike, jumbo perch, crappies, and even a few smallies and muskies will be caught.   Again, the goto presentation will be a jig and minnow. Slow trolling a crankbait will also produce fish if need be.

Totally disagree Gim. I have a gas Jiffy legend auger. Never issues. Take a little time to care for it before putting it away and good to go. Sincei started using non oxygen gas, startron and seafood in never have issues with my 2 strokes.   seafood???   I'd try seafoam!!!   🤣

Wow, 600 bucks for a battery powered lawn mower?  Guess I didn't realize they costed that much.   I assume most people now are using battery augers in the winter.  I remember when they first came out everyone thought they were a joke.  Things sure have changed on that front.  I hardly see anyone using a gas auger anymore.   The selling point, at least for me, would be to avoid having to do any engine maintenance.  Small 2 stroke motors are a pain in the rear to maintain, and unreliable at best.

I'll bet she's better at it!!!!

That thing should blow better then Stormy Daniels!  🤣🤣
