Great news up Vermillion way. The Bois Forte Band convened a council meeting, and voted unanimously to forbid the Fond Du Lac band to net Vermilion, so they pulled out.

Bois Forte Tribal chairman Kevin Leecy was quoted as saying, "we have significant concerns about them harvesting in our backyard" and "the health of lake Vermilions waters and wildlife is a big concern for residents and resort owners"

Perhaps Chairman Leecy can get a call in to the DNR, Mille Lacs band, and the other WI bands, and bring his considerable intelligence to bear upon a few of those folks.

That's a man who gets it.

They put the 10 fish pike limit on to get guys out to fish the lake other wise one body would come up.

Not sure where you're going with your analysis Jim. The intent was to stop any more gill netting/spearing, and Native harvest on Mille Lacs, like Chairman Leecy did at Vermillion...

Ten pike is pie in the sky, you can go catch ten snakes in any number of lakes around the Mille Lacs area, can't keep ten of course, but you can catch all you want. I doubt anyone will open at Mille Lacs for the supposed pike abundance.
