Where can a guy start looking for whities out on the chain? A guy told me start in like twelve feet and jig a rap. I have never fished this water and only have been to the access on big trout

Big Trout is where I would start. Seems to have the better numbers in there, might even stumble upon a trout too smile I'm hoping to make a march trip up there and see if I can't find some whities.

Another option might be ten mile lake in Hackensack.

Yea i definitely am going to try for Lakers out there in a few weeks but to tide me over til then I wanna try and tangle with a few big whitefish. I just don't know the depths that they might hold in and where to easily access those areas. I assumed they were similar to tullibees but have heard they may be shallower creatures at times.

I know a lot of people see them in their spear holes. I have caught quite a few on whitefish but only a couple on trout... And I live on the lake so fish it quite often

I've heard Pig Bay is a pretty good spot for them at least spearing.

does not hurt to try 20's by the weeds, mix of white fish and crappies.

But then you can get them out in 60 feet 30 feet down too.

They are everywhere like a laker. But when I fished Big trout, most whity's where found in or near the weeds.

Thanks it sounds worth a shot. One more question is it solid ice for a half ton out there or more so just sleds and wheelers?

My buddy & I have caught a few out on Big Trout 15-30 fow along shoreline drop offs but they go deep also. Fishing with little weasels, sweetish pimples & castmasters tipped with minnow heads...key word is little!

As far as driving...I suggest you use sled or atv first to check depths. There are a few dicey spots out there especially on both sides of the access there is always open water. There is usually a huge ice heave along the access shoreline so I doubt you can drive out anyways since they did the shoreline restoration. I haven't been up there yet this year waiting for laker season to open up. They're are a fast fish & you usually see flashes on your electronics suspended more than likely a whitefish or a laker chasing a school Tullibees.

Good Luck!

ya the ice can be thin to do to the depth of the lake, Their also is a spring to the left of the access that thins the ice. How ever don't be afraid to to to the left of the access in weeds for whity's or lakers. Some time that spring water attracts the bait fish and stirs up bugs for the fish. Same with any feeder creek.

I can a lot of whity's with a spoon, a lot with spoon (no hooks) then 1 foot leader line with a ratso, fishing for crappies.

Those flooding problems are a sign of your needle and seat are leaking.  If the needle has a ring around the tip you can clean it if it's brass. If it has a black rubber tip then it needs to be replaced. You can clean the needle and seat with things like rubbing compound or even toothpaste I use a product called Semi chrome. It for polishing die pins. Just clean them up after polishing.

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?
