ICE-55 Noisy

Question

Posted

My ICE-55 started making a loud noise, and sounds like it is out of balance. It is an older unit, so I dont expect it to be covered under warranty. Is there something common, that can easily be fixed? Greased? Kit ordered and be installed? Is this unit easy to take apart, and investigate the problem? Or once you pull the head apart, 317 parts fly out at you, and it needs to be thrown away then?

Most of the time the brushes just need cleaning and you can send it in and they will clean them and good as new, I know Marcum charges like $50 plus shipping not sure about the Bird.

Well I took it apart, I didnt see anything wrong, so I reassembled it, and all is quiet now. I think it got jarred, and there is a little balance stabilizer shim on the front of it, it may have popped loose. It was easy to disassemble, and inspect.

I took my ICE-55 apart today also. There was a loud buzzing noise which I was able to fix. I found a plastic cap that sits over the fiber optic cables on the back of disk that spins was loose. I added some super glue and it is good as new!

I needed a T10 torx bit to remove the back and T9 to get to the disk.

That was the exact part that was out of place on mine as well. I just pushed mine back into place, all is good, and the total fix took less then 5 minutes.
