Sitting here on the ice and nice and cozy... have had quite the ordeal the last 2 days to get here, and even today has been far from an easy going trip. I am going to be more optimistic tomorrow, but just thankful to be on the ice on New Years, and have a couple in the bucket, and if I would quit missing them... Hope everyone is able to enjoy some time on the lake or with family and friends.

Well let's see... recoil went to cap on the generator...gonna take awhile for a replacement to get here...my brother-in-law was nice enough to lend me his for the weekend. took my truck to drop some stuff off at storage only to head to work and my wife let me know it had a flat tire...got home and aired it up just to find that I needed to replace 2 tires. I got up a little early knowing that we weren't going to push to get up here, and the truck wouldn't start. Crawled under it with my phone's flashlight to notice a wire slightly loose on the starter so got that tightened down. Then on the drive up it turned into such a nice day with light traffic and smooth sailing. Got here drilled the holes (with the hc40) hit the furnace lever and nothing! Apparently the battery went to heck in the last couple days. Fired up the generator and it was OK... My Father-in-law had a backup with. I took mine out last week like a dummy. Now I guess for the positives...we are warm, have 5 in the bucket, and it's a new year!

Well every hour or less something hits a rattle reel...then 90% go to set the hook and nothing there... the ice is definitely talking tonight! Cracking is constant, and either drunks out driving around lost zig-zaging all around us... I think the wife is ready to call it a trip...she jumps every time there is a Crack now.

Interesting....what we won't do to get to the lake. hope you get all the bugs out and end up with a good fish fry

Well, do far the sun came up and the number of hits went down! Last night was a good night bite! I'm thinking if you are planning a day trip head to LOW right now...if you come up and are night owls...stop by URL... Bill, are you up here?

Ah...probably will be glad you weren't talking super cold for Sunday. Between that and the forecasted 40 mph winds and -50 windchills...ish! Well, for my last report we left the lake...lol, but we all ended up leaving with fish. We did catch a few overnight again, but with the constant wind we decided to just stick it out until around 11am today. One of those "sure glad it's over" kind of trips turned out to be a shorter than planned trip, but in all I guess sometimes it just shows that we need to breathe and relax... we made it through the first trip of the year, and all can only get better. One house definitely caught more and larger fish, but eating fish on the lake and bringing some home is always a plus! Now comes the rough part of eating fish so we can go back grin Hope everyone has a great weekend and stay safe out there with the snow, wind, and absolutely FRIGID Temps coming!

Sitting here in a Beacon sleeper since yesterday. Kinda slow bite but we are close to a 4 man limit oF 15-17s. Put back two 19's and 2 18's and a few smaller. Also a pike and a perch in the bucket. Missed as many as we got. Guys are doing great job getting road opened up. Fierce Winds and massive drifts out here. Looking forward to another decent night bite.

Cheers

Yes Beacon's main road came out real nice. Light snow but hard plowing as the ice is so slick from all the warm weather. Heads up to everyone on the lake, give the plow trucks plenty of room as we have very poor traction or control with the ice this slick. Plowing on the lake is usually like a controlled crash but with these conditions there are going to be a lot of plow trucks sliding around. The biggest drift I hit all day I ended up hitting broadside. crazy

Kelly makes a very good point!!! When I lifted my house and put my truck in drive it just spun in place... I was able to break it loose by rocking it back in reverse, but stopping once moving was interesting! A slow drifting jack knife is one way of putting it. I couldn't imagine hitting a hard drift at 25mph only to have your truck turn sideways due to low traction! I am however happy to have decided to leave early and not deal with the mess right now. However the thought of being locked into your spot for a few days with your spouse and kid (s) does sound appealing...

Those flooding problems are a sign of your needle and seat are leaking.  If the needle has a ring around the tip you can clean it if it's brass. If it has a black rubber tip then it needs to be replaced. You can clean the needle and seat with things like rubbing compound or even toothpaste I use a product called Semi chrome. It for polishing die pins. Just clean them up after polishing.

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?
