Anyone ever catch a rockbass or a small mouth thru the ice? I've never caught or seen on camera either thru the ice. I'm assuming they spend the winter in places I don't fish. I have no interest in pursuing either of those thru the ice, I just find it odd that I get a bunch of both during open water, none thru the ice. I'm wondering if its the same for every one else.

I was curious the same thing but I've had some friends this year catching some small mouth through the ice. When they catch one they catch a bunch. Must swim in pretty good schools during the winter.

Caught my first ever smallmouth through the ice a couple of weeks ago. 1.5-1.75 lbs. In a spot I don't see them in during the summer. Figured the poor guy was lost.

Yep, catch Rock Bass all the time through the ice out on Lake Lida.

Fortunately it seems the rock bass are less active in the winter on Pelican. I also catch them in the summer often but with less frequency in the winter. The largest Small Mouth I’ve ever seen came through the ice at over 5 ½ pounds.
