I was on Buffalo Lake on 12/13/14, caught some fish, and Last night 12/26/14, There was 8-10 inches of ice. Very Very Slow yesterday compared to the 13th,.. Am i in the wrong spot? Using the wrong bait? Just not getting lucky? Or is everyone else having slow days on the ice recently..Has anyone been out there and had luck with in the past couple days? Any help would be Great.

If you are not getting bit it is time to move. Sometimes it can 5 feet other days it is across the lake. It takes time to learn a lake and there are days where a lake will make someone who knows a lake look like they do not know what they are doing. I have a good pattern going at this time. I know a lot of guys at the landing were complaining about the bite, but I was smiling.

If I put that vexilar down and don't mark any fish...I don't wet a line. Drill till you find the fish.

WS2 this is a slow persistent cold front we are in your best bet is to fish a lake you know well-get right on the bullseye-sounds like you know some lakes in the south-central area but the ice is sketchy well the ice is getting better every minute, walk out and you will be fine. Get on your best spot and throw everything at them.

Go explore when weather is stable or on the upswing-Thats my 2cents.

Good Luck

Just got back from Buffalo Lake today. 10-11 inches of ice. Four wheelers and 3 wheelers everywhere, a few wheel houses. Slow bites, but there biting. Fished in 24 feet of water, caught some crappies (avg. 8-11 inchers) and a couple perch (avg. 5-7 inchers) Kept a few fish for take home otherwise too small so, Catch and release. Had to move a few times with the house to find a decent bite. Fished from 1pm ish until 5:30. Not much luck, 2 hour drive, but fun being out. This crappie was only 10 inches, you can make fun of me, whatever but i had fun being out, and not gonna let little jerks bother me if you wanna be Crule.

nothing wrong with those 10 inchers from Buffalo. to me that is a good eating size if you want to eat a few. once the ice is safe to drive on with the truck I have a few spots out there I could show you if you wanted to meet up sometime out there.

Thanks Jeremy and Brad that would be great. You have any spots for Walleyes??

I don't even drill a hole if I don't mark fish. I use water to make a small puddle to shoot thru, the ice clear works better, you can cover more areas.

No reason to waste the time drilling dead areas. I have thought trying decoys to bring fish in if there is a mall group near by. I make some sunfish and crappies. Thinking it could ease he fish already in the area, plus it cause other feel competition. for the lures being fished.full-4901-52053-crappiedecoy.jpg

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?

but if he really wants I can change the date..

As soon as I started reading mind went to needles and seats.  You might want to try just replacing those first?  I’ve only done that once before in my life but it made the difference.  A carb refresh in 8,000 miles seems reasonable.

Good luck smurfy!  On getting drawn, I mean!   If it comes down to it, I know a guy that might be interested in a nice hide.
