Bill, I'm headed up first thing monday morning, have a 4 man sleeper with John too, for 2 nights.

Could you let me know what the snow situation is on the lake? I'm going to bring either the sled or the wheeler, and portable. Would rather take the sled but I'm not sure there is enough snow to keep the slides cool.

Thanks, and hope you're puttin' the smackdown on them!!

No snow on the lake to speak of X.....my daughter has been out skating around my house....took a long time to bank house cause I had to carry it from the little patches maybe 50 ft.

Hope ya pounded them with your grandoughter bill!

Xplorer we left at noon today, no snow is the situation. Wheelers could go wherever you wanted.

Posted

Thanks for the update guys, i'll be loading the wheeler and putting the chains on it.

Bill, was Beacon's road over the pressure ridge yet?

Posted

xplorer: no it was not. John has a new bridge constructed and the plan is to put it in place tomorrow. the pressure ridge has been moving around with the weather changes. right now they are staged near the ridge and ready to go over and west. that will be a good thing as there was to much activity in a small area. spreading out is the way to go. no snow on the lake, so no no roads to follow, you can drive any place out there. causing a problem with lack of snow to bank the houses. after last year its kind of ironic, they are hoping for snow.

did get a chance to say hi to Kelly and Patsy. always nice to see old friends.

headed back again in two weeks, so hopefully the bite will improve with the new locations

Thanks Bill....with the forecast I am gonna leave the wheeler home (plus having major wiriing issues) but bring the portable. Hope I can cross the bridge and get on some fresh ice for a few hours with the truck.

Bill, we brought portables with on our trip and hopped over the breaker. With the lack of snow, we were able to get quite a ways our from the cluster of houses that John has going there, and we caught as many fish in 3 hours out there than we did on the North side of the breaker in 40 hours. Its a darn shame that their welder was sick, so they couldn't get the bridge done by the time we got there... but thankfully we were able to be mobile and find more fish even if was for a short stint. laugh

stcloudangler: glad you had some action. i'm headed back in two weeks so i'm hoping John is over the break soon, looking forward to some wide open spaces. we had two drunks rap on the door Friday night looking for there house......hope they found it. didn't see anybody in a prone position the next day... cool

Talked to Beacon Harbor today. Sounds like the bridge is in place. Hopefully they can move houses into some fresh water before we get up there Friday.

Cheers

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

👍 when/if i get drawn.....which i should know about june 1 we'll get in touch........both my kid and myself should get drawn.   and thanks.........with 6 preference points............i think are odds are pretty good.............there giving out 375 permits......and since we had yogi and booboo destroy my birdfeeders last spring......🙄

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?

but if he really wants I can change the date..
    • Wanderer
As soon as I started reading mind went to needles and seats.  You might want to try just replacing those first?  I’ve only done that once before in my life but it made the difference.  A carb refresh in 8,000 miles seems reasonable.

Good luck smurfy!  On getting drawn, I mean!   If it comes down to it, I know a guy that might be interested in a nice hide.
