Does anyone have any ice condition reports on any of the following lakes?

Shields, Mazaska, French, Roberds, or Fox

I'm only looking for ice conditions after we had our three day heat wave.

Thanks

Fox 4.75-5.5

Cedar (Rice County) - 4 holes, 6 inches each.

Posted

French: 4-6" nice black ice.

Posted

Mazaska was 8" at 100 yds from landing and 6" at 200 yds from landing.

I was on French Saturday morning. I went out of public access with my wheeler an covered an good area fishing an found a good 6 to 8.25 inches of vary good black ice!

Posted

WOAH! French has 4-6 then it has 6-8.25 thats not accurate,.. but ice does vary so i wouldnt doubt it so i guess it depends where you are on the lake, thanks for the reports everyone.

Perch slayer don't even start with me I was defending you when everyone one was attacking you!! You would like I'll go back to those hole with a tape an Measure an take a pic!! At least that's more than you could do since your information was second hand I was actually out their an seen it! Last year this sit was pretty cool but this year it seems like a lot of talk! But that's too bad !

Cedar where I was few hundred yards east of the island by the landing ranged from four to six. Felt bad for the guys without cleats seen a couple guys take some bad diggers.

Any new reports within the last 24 hours?

Ice is thin. I drilled 130 holes today. Never found more than 5. Cannon.

What was on canon last weekend? Do you think it has actually lost that much ice over the last four days?

Posted

it has lost almost 2 inches of ice in 3 weeks out on cannon.

Uh ya.it was t shirt and cold beer weather yesterday.

Go for a walk on the ice. You'll figure it out real quick

6.5 of good ice on French yesterday (12-27), but that was only a couple hundred yards from shore. Saw a couple ATV's out there, yikes be careful. A lot of open holes got bigger and in the wind and rain last week and now the they may only have an inch or so of ice and hidden in the snow. Good luck and be careful!

Anyone know where the guy fell in on Shields?

Posted

Could be anywhere. Holes all over.

Posted

Myself and another managed 4 crappies on french this morning. It was cold. Ice seemed to be around 8", but found a couple spots of 4" so be careful

someone fell through on Shields

Posted

Yes, They ran after a shelter that blew away

Done with Saturday's at work. Ice conditions? Wheeler? Look out fish. Here I come!

Posted

Your pretty safe most areas now I would think Ryan, good luck!

French today, east end we found 8" and on the west side up to 10" As always it will vary everwhere, no ice is safe ice, but We are finally getting some ice made! Lots of perm's being taken out today, Matt C. parked on the ice at the launch and when we left there was a good 15 cars parked on the ice along the launch, however that area is only 2-5" deep to begin with, so dont think that every lake you can park on yet! See everyone sunday @ french for the GTG!

Posted

Some crazy had their Ford Ranger(with the wheeler in the back) out on French about half a mile out....don't be a fool, people! Maybe 10" out there, but, I sure as heck would not risk it!

Posted

There were two full sized trucks on Mazaska this morning about 300 yards out from the access.

Posted

We were on Mazaska yesterday and the thickest we found was 7", did not see trucks but one car and quite a few big houses out. When we walked to our tip ups you could see the water bouncing in the holes so you I wouldn't suggest driving on it until later this week - should be building some good ice now.

Try contacting Cody Hill.  He鈥檚 always on the fish and based in Pelican Rapids, just southeast of Moorhead.   https://www.chillguideservice.com/about-cody-and-chill   Those are your closest lakes.  Otherwise, like mentioned, the Red River is your best bet.  I鈥檝e never fished that area though so I can鈥檛 give you any starters.

i'm going to be there for a couple of weeks, will have facilities but I'm more than likely to be doing just  catch and release so don't mind what i catch.

Well, we had our first one in over a year.  I didn't think anyone would be interested in stem cell research so he went away!

Welcome to the FM site. Lot of questions that would be helpful, to help you. How long are you staying? If only a few days and you have the money a local guide is going to be your best bet to get on fish.  Are you just doing catch and release or are you going to have a place to clean and cook fish?   In the Red river your more then likely going to target catfish. Hopefully a few of our members who live out that way can chime in on some cat fishing setups or spots.  Good luck.

I am visiting from the UK to the Moorhead area in the coming weeks and would like to do some fishing while there.  I am trying to find info about what is available to me. I have a variety of gear that i could bring, but am a little restricted by weight limits on the flight. I understand the red river of the north is close by and as the land of 10000 lakes, I am sure there are plenty to fish in.  I appreciate that I will need a local license and I understand I can get this on-line. I would welcome any tips regarding locations and fishing tackle required in this area. I am happy to fish from the shore.  I have also searched for guides in the area but with little success, again and info would be welcome.  Thanks

That's a wrap on my ice season, have to head back to the cities for a while. Fished the last 3 nights and we managed to get a handful of crappies every night. Here's some pictures over the last 3 outings. Cool fog over the lake tonight. Kept a few for a meal.

I started going to Haydays when I moved to Blaine in the mid-80's.  Waldoch was very convenient from Blaine.  I quit going for several years when they moved it to North Branch.  I've gone there the last 3 years and like the new layout better.  Parking and admission has gotten very pricey but the event offers a lot to do and see.  Now that I moved up north, Princeton would probably be further for me than North Branch, but maybe I will give it a try.

I to started out at the haydays back when it was at Waldoch.  I went to the Haydays last fall for the first time in about 6 years, only because my grandsons wanted to see the "C-Boys" some U-tub clowns that trash stuff on U-tube.  Two hours in line to see these clowns!  Not me I sat in a UTV for sale at a stand as they were in line! 馃槅  I use go every fall to Princeton-Outlaws, Anoka-Rum river runners at the Anoka fairgrounds and once in a while the very small swap at the Brainard fair grounds.  I can't even remember all the stuff I bought over the years for snowmobile, 4 wheelers, and dirtbikes.  馃お
