Was out on White Bear last night and there is TRASH all over the place already. Beer cans, empty propane bottles, containers and whatever else lazy people leave on the ice.

Pick up your trash people. You bring it out there full, you can bring it back even easier when it is empty. Believe it or not your beer cans and propane bottles are not biodegradable. Plus there is a dumpster right as you leave the beach at Belaire Beach.

That is all.

Thank you.

I do not understand why it is so hard to carry empty things back off the lake. A full 12 pack of beer is heavier than the 12 empty cans. I just bring a bag and pick up the trash, because I know other will not. If we all pick up there will be no mess, but to just complain about it does not make it better. I understand the need to vent. So please vent on, but bring a bag to pick up some of the others trash please. smile

Kids? I have seen more middle aged slobs than kids leaving trash on the ice..

A sign would be a good idea. But if there is a dumpster or can there and they don't see that. How can they read a sign. It is a common thing on a lot of lakes. All we can do is pick up what we can.

I agree a sign will not do anything. One of my favorite lakes as garbage cans and people toss trash on the ground or in the back of my truck instead.

I have seen all aged people do it. Most of the time it is the middle aged people from my experience.

At Lake McMahon last weekend and Bush Lake this weekend, I saw a lot of empty beer cans a some other trash blowing around. Please pick up after yourselves. Leave the ice/lake better than you found it. I always check my spot before I leave to make sure all trash and of course my belongings have been collected.

The unfortunate reality is that we can't control the actions of others and we're never going to be able to change it. The ONLY thing we can do is pick up after them. Yeah, it sucks having to do it, but knowing I've left the lake in a better state than I found it makes me feel good about myself and that's worth the hassle to me, even if it's just 1 or 2 cans/bottles. Whenever I see people being slobs and littering, I'm just thankful that I was born and raised the type of person who doesn't do that.

I'm one that despises people purposely and carelessly leaving their trash on the lakes - or anywhere for that matter. So I'm no stranger to the frustration and sometimes anger too.

One thing that I've come to accept though, is that anyone can lose trash by accident. Sometimes it falls out of the sled, off the wheeler, or blows out of the truck in the wind. I'll chase down any of my stuff if I notice it, but I'll admit if it's blowing and there's no way I can catch up to it safely, I let it go.

What I do to make up for it is try my best to keep my trash under control and contained. And when I see stuff others have lost or left, I pick it up and dispose of it myself. It's the best I can do and I avoid bursting a blood vessel from being angry.

We just gotta keep doing what we can to keep the places we care about in the best shape possible. Thanks to everyone who picks stuff up whether its yours or not. cool

Thanks for posting. smile

Picking up the trash of others is the best way to make the fishing gods happy. I am convinced that it increases my luck.

I've also convinced two friends that leaving cigarette butts on the ice or throwing them in the lake is wrong. Put them in a can/bottle and throw away on shore. Cig butts make me mad.

Everyone needs a role model. Not everyone is so lucky to have good ones frown

It's just tough to see that there have only been people fishing out on the ice for a few weeks and there is that much trash already.

Real sportsmen are what make the difference and actually take the time to pick up after these pigs so everyone can enjoy the lake year round.

I was out last Sat morn from Belle Aire and picked up some beer and pop cans and broken beer bottle and some lure packaging. But I also picked up the slobs ice scoop as well, so in their sloppy carelessness they lost a few bucks.

I always carry extra plastic bags for this purpose. Like said, no use to get angry, just do what we can to make a better image of ice anglers, and it is pretty easy, just pick a can/bottle as you see it. Thanks to the others who pick up after slobs as well.

While out yesterday I picked up an orange juice jug, empty tequila bottle, cigarette packs and an empty beer case - I get the occasional cardboard or minnow bag that flies away in the wind or in the dark, I think that's happened to all of us and sometimes there's no way you're ever going to catch up to it.

But I have yet to fish in a wind strong enough to blow a glass liquor bottle out of my sled, onto the ice, and directly back into on of the holes I was just fishing...

Nah those potheads are more than likely to keep stuff picked up, it's the drunk idiots who trash [PoorWordUsage].

Sunday I picked up 2 aa batteries someone threw onto the ice(those don't fly off of a sled) Please if you see batteries on the ice pick them up, this is not unsightly litter this will be pollution.

Batteries is BAD

Posted

Yesterday I got two propane caps, some fishing line, an empty snuff bag and a candy bar wrapper - all from the same place.

Oh, and a delicious bass. From a different place.

I know its not a competition but if it was I win -BATTERIES! Do you know what chemicals are in batteries? Plastic stuff is bad but its mostly inert. Lotta that stuff floats and would float away,

batteries would sink and leak out.

BTW rechargables- everyone save money and the environment, Enloop is a great brand they come with a charger for about 20 bucks-

OK my rant is over.

Ok the ice was 15-16 inches and less than 2 inches of snow. It’s was -15 this morning and the weekend looks to be cold again. The fish were there but not biting with change in weather.

I guess the vikings are a lot like fishing.  Very entertaining but frustrating at times. I've probably been cheering the vikings for 50 plus years  that i can remember and once again it's all about (there's always next year).

I remember Jeno's boxed pizza years ago.  Mom made it every Saturday night while dad and I watched All Star Wrestling.

On the South Shore... Ice fishing is going great on the south shore of Lake of the Woods, with resorts and outfitters reporting thickening ice conditions with two feet of ice in some areas.  Many ice roads are now open to 1 ton vehicles pulling a wheelhouse.  Every road has different weight limits, check with each resort for details before traveling up and out on the ice.      Some good fishing this past week.  As a rule, fishing activity is happening in 28 - 32 feet of water.  Resorts do just about everything they can to get customers on fish and this past week, some resorts made some long runs, resetting fish houses in new areas miles off shore.  Most are reporting good fishing as a rule.     It is common to sort through some small walleyes and saugers to get your keepers on LOW.  Naturally, some big fish are showing up, especially in deeper water.  In addition, this has been a very good year for jumbo perch with good numbers being caught.  Other fish in the mix are eelpout (burbot), pike, tullibees and an occasional sturgeon.      Anglers are using the one-two punch of jigging in one hole and deadsticking the second hole. In the jigging hole, a jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head or tail in gold / pink, gold / glow red, glow white / pink, or Wonder Bread have worked well.     Especially in the deeper water, some anglers are finding success on rippin raps or using jigging spoons with a rattle as well.     On the deadstick, a small jig with a live minnow hooked behind the dorsal fin set 6 inches - a foot off of the bottom is working well.  One day the jigging line catches most of the fish, the other day a deadstick is hot.     Electronics are very helpful to see suspended fish, know when fish are coming through and adjust your presentation to the mood of each fish.  Most resorts, outfitters and bait shops in the area rent electronics by the day.   On the Rainy River... The Rainy River is still producing some nice walleyes and saugers, primarily in the mornings and evenings.  A jig and minnow working well.   Catch-and-release sturgeon fishing continues to be good for those targeting them.  An oversized hole, or three holes drilled together, with nightcrawlers or frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig fished on the bottom are what anglers are using.     Ice conditions on the river can vary significantly due to the current. To stay safe and maximize success, always work with a local resort or outfitter familiar with river conditions.    Up at the NW Angle... Ice fishing continues to be very good up at the Northwest Angle. Resorts have fish houses set up on various pieces of structure as well as adjacent to structure in deep mud.  A consistent mix of walleyes, saugers, jumbo perch, pike and tullibees in the mix.     Shallow structure is best right away in the morning and as the sun starts going down in the late afternoon.  Mud is more of a slower bite but all day.   The ice road from Jerry's on the mainland (Angle Inlet, MN) to island resorts (as of this past week) was open to 1 ton vehicles.  Guests drive right to their island resort after picking up a road pass at Jerry's or Point North Services.  Venmo is also available at all resorts.  Work through your resort for specifics.   Ice fishing is in full swing across Lake of the Woods and there are openings for lodging, fish house rentals, sleeper fish house rentals and meal plans across the area.  Ice fishing is extended on LOW with fish houses allowed on the ice through March 31st, walleye / sauger season open through April 14th and a pike season that never closes.

From your fingertips to God's ears...  Finally got some snow!   Several inches of new snow fell before and during the weekend.  Sunday eve when we left, the high winds had already begun to create some drifting on the lake.  It was fun riding for sure.  Lots of folks on the lake this past weekend too.  We fueled up the sleds at Shamrock and saw as many people fishing in that area as I've ever seen in the Winter on Lake Vermilion.     Our weekend results were decent.  Jeff and I and a buddy caught probably 50 walleyes between the three of us, mostly fishing a jig/plastics with our three biggest being 24", 25", and 25.5".  We also got one large pike of unknown length.  During the midday on Sunday, we targeted whitefish and Jeff managed one big one.  We released all of our fish, except for three small walleyes that our buddy wanted to bring home for a meal.  Definitely a fun weekend on Lake V!

The Vikings are the Vikings so it's nothing new.  It is kind of sad that Darnold's off season stock is now going to drop like a rock after these last two games. It kind of shows he's not a big game guy.  🤔

I'm blaming leech... his food selection has been lacking game days recently  🤣
