New to the area, well sort of. Finally have time from work to get back on the ice, can anyone steer me InThe right direction for some decent action? I am not familiar with any of the lakes in the dl area.. Not looking for your hotspots, just a little friendly advice an a direction/lake or lakes to give a try. Thanks in advance

S of DL I like Franklin, Lida, Crystal, and Star for pannies. N of DL Floyd, is OK, E of DL Tamarack on the refuge is OK

There are a ton of great panfish lakes and most get passed up because of large bass, northerns, or walleyes. Since there hasn't been too much information on this page I would suggest getting a Becker/Ottertail County lake map book and look at the reports of fish caught in the nets. They usually are pretty decent and with some lakes getting renetted they can be pretty accurate. Also when you read about a lake you will find out about accesses and most give tips on where to fish or how to fish the lake. I know this is very broad but it seems if you say a lake there seems to be 100 new houses the following weekend. Nice thing about panfishing the lakes in the area you can drill a bunch of holes and just start hoping around and see what happens.

      application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

      Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

      I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
