Did you fish little or big green?

I was fishing the small basin, little green.

Night time they do best in the deeper basins of the main lake.. Daytime you are better off in the shallow water weed transitions.

What types of baits should I be using?

I've had good luck on little green right by the channel all day long before. Just using small slender spoons or tungston jigs with red larva (spikes) on either the jig or spoon. Never hurts to haveba minnow down. I've found bigger crappies on the main lake.

what to use will depend on a ton of different things.. Small spoons with a minnow head may produce well some days, a whole crappie minnow with just a red hook may produce best some days. Others a small jig with a wax worm will work best, and some days plastics will be the key.. Thats part of the fun of fishing, work different lures till you find what they want that day.. and then it will change next hour.

Like Dietz said, a variety of options will work. I have had some great mornings out there with red spikes off small tungsten jigs, I have done well with small forage minnow spoons with minnow heads. I like to fish one hole actively and have a minnow and bobber rig down the second hole in case they want a little meat. Don't shy away from using panfish plastics as these can be great for triggering bites as well.
