Striker, Ice Armour, or frabill suit....

Stay away from Ice Armour. It cold, clammy, makes you sweat when you move, and it gets stiff and uncomfortable. Outside of that it's ok. I hate mine.

Im looking to purchase the Striker Predator Ice Suit and the St Paul Ice fishing show, have heard some pretty good things about striker! Any idea what kind of deal I could get at the expo?

I got the Predator suit this year. List price is $ 189.00 each for the bibs and jacket. Got mine at Joes about a month ago and got $80.00 off $378.00-80= $298.00 plus tax if I remember right. Love the suit.

.

I would have to disagree with this. The Ice Armor suits are not bad suits. I use the Lift suit and am very happy with it. I am not saying this because I pro staff for them but say it as a actual user of it. that being said I do have a Striker suit too. I normally wear the Lift suit on most days but on the really extremely cold days I will wear the Striker suit. they are both good suits.

Striker by far. I have tried all the floating suits and the one I use the most is my Striker suit.

i finally figured i would get something more comfortable and warmer than the carhartts so I did some research and Striker suits have come ahead above all other brands on the research I've done. So I purchased a striker jacket (non floating) from Korky's outpost as they had it clearanced to $50; theres 2 sizes still available there FYI... bibs i went with the celsius brand off of amazon as teh reviews were very good compared to the ice armor and clam stuff and about 1/2 the price...

Stay away from Arctic Armour. It cold, clammy, makes you sweat when you move, and it gets stiff and uncomfortable. Outside of that it's ok. I hate mine.

I would disagree here. I have had Arctic Armor since the year after it came out. I thought it was going to cheap when it arrived, as it is very thin. But after wearing it for, what about 10 years now, give or take, I still have the same Red suit. It has rips, burns, sticthing pulling out in a few places, but day in and day out it just works.

I think it is warm, and I use it for ice fishing but I layer (base 1/4 zip, Dickies hoodie, jacket) and for bibs I wear Cabelas WaderWise pants and the bibs, as the wader pants are so comfy. Never get cold. Maybe put on a fleece vest if real cold (-5 or colder).

I use it every weekend of the ice season, and also snowmobiling, and also fall/spring open water fishing. It is stinky, dirty, getting ugly, one seam in leg coming undone finally, but still ticking just fine, considering! I also jumped in the lake with it to test it, and that is now how I clean it once a year, ha!

Can't say about the others, but I like this suit and use it a ton. The one thing I will agree on, is that it does NOT breathe well. I just remove jacket when drilling holes, or walking long distance, then put it back on when I am cooled off. But I would do that with any jacket.

Maybe stryker is what I might try when the time comes, but I am just going to Sew What to have this old one repaired and maybe another 5 years smile Good luck!

Only issue I've had with the striker suits is the crotch blowing out. I have two suits and both had the same issue. Striker stood behind the first but not the second suit after only 16 months. Hopefully this issue has been resolved.

The crotch is restored. No issues on mine after 2 fuel seasons and into my third.

I can do karate, take kwon do, and a bunch of other nasty crazy maneuvers in mine and never had a problem.

Ya my new Striker suit is much better than when they came out the 1st year. No crotch rippin issues and I love the 3 way zippers and the zip out gators and inner jacket.

BoxMN,

I thought the world of my first Arctic Armor suit too. Just try a Styker and you won't waste the time sewing your AA back together to suffer for another 5 years. wink

As for Clam and Frabil? No comment. I've never had the chance to try either.

A few days late, haha! I just picked up my AA from Sew What, so another 5 years or more it is smile But will likely try out Stryker for next for the heck of it, or whatever else is around then. The mending pricetag is much cheaper than a new suit for sure! Thanks for the info though, might try one on this year to see how it fits.

If it wasn’t for the low knee pads (essentially shin pads) and slipping shoulder straps, the Striker suit would be darn near perfect. Mine is still going strong as well.

The shoulder straps on the Striker suit are absolutely worthless. Having to put them back in place every 5 seconds is annoying enough that I won't recommend them.

I have a arctic armor suit and like it. It is very light and very warm...sometimes to warm on those 30-40 degree days and when on the move. Price wise AA will be cheaper than a striker. With that being said...for duck hunting or like camo, the striker duck blind suit would be my next purchase and its not as insulated as the other suites they have which has its benefits if you move alot and those warmer days...and still use my AA on those really cold days.

Which floating suit would you recommend?

I can only comment on the Striker and AA. I think the Striker is a nice upgrade from AA, but I have several complaints about mine which make me not real eager to recommend Striker. The knee pads are too low, the shoulder straps are a complete hassle, the pit zips in mine leak an incredible amount of cold air, and I have a dozen little rips/cuts on the lower legs of my bibs that I guarantee aren't form an auger, knife, or anything sharp hitting them. And I wasn't very impressed with the "Richard" at Striker customer service when I contacted them.

I really feel like this is a product that wasn't actually tested before releasing to the market. If it was we wouldn't have had a crotch that ripped out in a matter of a few hours, the knee pads would have been positioned properly, and the shoulder straps would have been functional.

I have the first year Hardwater suit, so some of these things may have changed in the last few years.

I am not sure what you guys mean about the knee pads and the shoulder straps as I have never had an issue with either. Now when I stand the pad may be a little under the knee but I know when I go to kneel down the padding is right where it should b protecting my knee!! If the shoulder straps are falling off your shoulder doesn't that mean you have them too loose?

On the South Shore...  The focus for most this past week has been the ongoing deer hunting season and/or watching the forecast and feeling optimistic about the cold temps over the next couple of weeks.     The forecast shows temps staying below freezing and hitting the single digits many days.  Depending upon the wind, this should make some ice and get things started,   The limited number of anglers still fishing are taking advantage of fairly mild weather for November, but that is changing quickly.  Good numbers of walleyes, saugers and a lot of jumbo perch are staged across the south shore which bodes well for ice fishing.   No surprise this time of year, vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.     Resorts and outfitters are busy, continually getting ready for the ice fishing season.  Fish house maintenance, light ice rigs, bombardiers, track rigs, augers, fish houses, sleeper houses, permitting, deep cleaning, remodeling, and the list goes on.  All good stuff that helps to make the ice fishing season more enjoyable. On the Rainy River...  Very good fishing reports for those on the river this week, and there have been a few boats.  Limits of walleyes was the norm for most. Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners.    Having good numbers of walleyes in the river is desired by those who ice fish the south shore.  It is believed some of the walleyes in the river make their way out to the lake as the ice fishing season progresses, providing additional fish to ice anglers out in front of Pine Island.  All good stuff. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are finishing up deer hunting, processing venison or getting ready for the upcoming ice fishing season.  For the few that got out, reports were excellent.  A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing for those who braved the colder temps.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Late fall is known as a good time to catch muskies and this year has held true. If you haven't made reservations for ice fishing, now is a great time.  Day houses normally get out mid December with an extended season on LOW, lasting through March.  Mother Nature always dictates.  Resorts and outfitters will be monitoring ice conditions, posting weight limits throughout the year.

They are quite the dog. He's an absolute machine, well trained, never breaks early. They have a reputation for being stubborn and mean but that dog is just friendly and would hunt everyday all day if he could. Fortunate that he comes with on the trips we go on.

My buddy has a Chesapeake retriever but we don't bring him with crane hunting for that reason. They have an affinity for stabbing dogs eyes out. Typically if they aren't completely dead when they hit the ground they don't run like geese. I typically hit em with my barrel and that finishes them. I've had them try and stab me or kick me with their spurs. We killed one goose hunting with my buddies dog and it was dead. He wouldn't pick it up just barked at it. Must smell way different than ducks. I guess they have mites but haven't noticed them. Never seen them on them or the meat and never see "rice breast" on them. My buddies dog is named teddy after Teddy Roosevelt. He went 231/232 ducks and geese retrieves this year.

Kettle... remembering you shot sandhills,, my brother was saying a friend of his does alot of waterfowl hunting also. He has told people he hunts with if they get a sandhill anywhere near his dogs he'd do serious bodily harm to them.   This guy claims sandhill cranes are  flea infested creatures.    You have any ideas? It's just what he was told

@11-87   Shop the Burris line here. https://www.burrisoptics.com/   You can mount a red dot on top of a regular scope if you want but they also off lighted reticles in some of their standard scopes.   Impressive lineup of optics that have come a long way since I last looked.  Drop Tine is their economy line.  I’m probably going to look at the mid level Signature HD.   Lifetime warranty on all models.
