Anyone have any ice reports? I'm hoping to hit the lake this weekend and curious as to the conditions. Also wondering if any thing is biting?

Posted

The ice was in good condition over the weekend with trucks and wheel houses all over. Not sure how much snow they had yesterday so i cant say on the current conditions. I never put a tape measure to the ice but a rough guess would be around 15". Reports of Crappies on Clay Banks and Dalen's Bay.

Thanks for the report. I'm not real familiar with the lake so I'm not sure where those spots are. I usually fish the bay on the east side, go southeast past the rock island thing if you come on the lake from the west landing.

If i am following your description i believe your are coming off of Boyd's landing on the west side of the lake and heading to Dalen's Bay on the east side. You will see the small town out there.

Well thanks for the info, the few times I have been there there has been a group there and to the south of that bay. Where is clay banks?

Just south of the bay.

Ok that's where I've seen another small village.

How is vehicle traffic on the lake right now? Thinking about heading there tmrw. Not real familiar with the lake so I'm just looking for safety tips and not fishing spots. Can a guy drive out and set up a portable anywhere or are there roads to stay close to? Thanks for any info!

From what I read only 1 walleye was weighed in at the big ice castle tourmanent?? Just due to the tournament environment or are we thinking the walleye fishery out on LQP is not what it once was!? Last couple seasons have been slower for me, but I still feel like I can find a few out there, never made it on hard water this winter unfortunately so I cannot speak to that

I was looking at trying to fish some new areas and lakes this year. Lac was one that I plan on trying, I was just wondering what to expect? I'm not able to find any good lake maps . Is it a lake you have to be really carefull for rocks and shallow water or is it safe for running around? And if not safe any any certain areas to watch for? Any what type of presentations should I try?

Thanks in advance and tight lines

There are numerous rock piles/sunken islands you need to account for, but for the most part the lake is easy to navigate. As far as presentations, LQP is an interesting lake. you can talk to 4 guys that have fish in the livewell at a ramp, and each probably used a different presentation to catch them. Pitching jigs into mudlines is fun; crankbaits produce, spinner/crawler produces, slip bobbering is fun and yields bonus crappies, it really comes down to being ready to try anything and putting in time to see what works.
