FOUND MY STOLEN HONDA EU2000i GENERATOR!!!

I have a great update for you guys smile

With a little detective work of my own I led the Police to recover my stolen generator!

I've been watching the C -list since it was stolen, and 12 days ago I posted a wanted ad for a Honda 2000.

I've gotten nearly a dozen replies, none of which were mine, but then on Tuesday a guy sends me pictures of mine!! $750 cash wink

I called the police and we set up a sting operation to buy it from the crook smile

As it turns out, the guy who sent me the pics had bought it from the thief a day after it was stolen.....

So needless to say, the rest of my stuff is still missing, but the police are working on tracking down the guy. I hope they catch him and nail him with a felony wink

that is not only fantastic but actually quite unbelievable, well done Dic Tracy!!! Now how to find the rest of the stuff.... and not that it matters but kinda screws the guy in the middle, who thought he bought a generator.

Posted

That's freaking awesome!!!!

Hope you get the rest of the stuff back soon.

Posted

Amazing! Keep us updated, don't let up, I hope they find the losers that stole your stuff.

nice, now I can stop checking c-list for you every day! smile

Wouldn't the guy who bought it be just as guilty? I mean he must have known it was stolen, so that why he turned around to try and sell it too...

Posted

Yeah! Catch the Bum.

Posted

That is great you got it back but I wouldn't be surprised if there was no middle man. Why would a guy sell it in the next few days unless he knew it was hot. Then he should be screwed.

Posted

Ya i guess that makes sense. stupid people, nothing more frustrating that having something you worked hard for stolen by some one-who-thinks-I-am-silly. Congrats again!!

Posted

You would think he would have known something I would imagine he got a REALLY good deal on it which is probably why he bought it to make a profit on it.

Posted

Did the middle man get charged with anything? Possession of stolen goods?

Common sense should have told him that it was probably stolen when he supposedly bought it. When a price seems to be too good to be true it probably is for a reason.

Glad to hear you got it back though. I have a friend that got his bike back doing the same thing you did. He found it on Craigs list and brought the cops when he went to buy it back from the thief. He got extra lucky and got to watch the cops tackle the bum as he tried to run away.

That was awesome how you placed the wanted ad. You could work some police dept.'s as they seem to have a hard time with some recoveries.

Great sting, I love it.

I love it when the good guy wins. Really happy for you!

I have purchased some items and the price was way low, people needed the cash. The guy that had it will more than likely not be charged with anything as he only purchased a item. What he is out is the cash he paid, should be a lesson learned.

Bought a rifle once, hard airline alum case and 6 boxes of shells from a guy once for the price of the shells. I did have the serial number checked and it was not stolen. Sometimes people simply offer items very inexpensive as they need some money.

Almost felt bad paying him so little but, that was his asking price.

Congrats!! I am sure the guy who had will be ok unless he has a record for theft or burglary. In which case the Police will be watching him and his associates closely.

Awesome! Great news!

Nice work B-man!! I hope they find the scumbag who stole it and nail him!

It will be interesting to see how well this middle-man works with the police. It's hard to believe he didn't know it was stolen.

I love pay back!!! laugh

When I was in Jr, high I caught the kids that stole my Go cart one year and Mini bike the next! But they weren't smart enough not to ride it down the street a few blocks away from where they took it! grin

Posted

Im thinking your not going to get your beer back!!! Hope you do get back the tools and fishing gear tho

Posted

Thats way awsome B man. good for you. but I suppose its tied up as evidence for a while till things go thru the prossess

Posted

That's awesome!

I sort of feel bad for the middle guy though. If he really is an innocent party, then he is out the money he paid for it. Seriously how is someone supposed to know if something is stolen or not? I've bought a lot of things on hsolist and for all I know they all have been stolen.

Thanks guys, the middleman was an honest 70 year old guy with a clean record.

He happened to have a wanted ad on the list when mine went missing. He had bought a different one first when the crook got a hold of him and sold him mine for $600.

The older gentlemen is P-oed, cause he is now out that money and he is hoping just as much as I they catch him. He did buy it with the intention of reselling it for a small profit, and is now wayyyy in the hole.......

I should get mine back in a few days.

Good for you!!!!!

Curious as to how you got the police to be involved. I would think that crossing jurisdictional lines would be a problem. Plus it really isn't that high of a charge if they catch the guy. i think it's great that you were able to pull it off. Tell us how so we're ready for the next time.

Good to hear!!

Did the middle man…remember anything like lic. plate number…color of car…what he looks like? anything that would help?

Posted

B-man how did you prove it was yours? Makes me want to identify my equipment in some way but what is good enough for the cops.....

I installed an hour meter on the side panel and a brass barb on the gas cap.

The Detective assigned to my case asked how sure I was it was mine...... I told him that it was 110% without the slightest doubt mine wink You could show me 5,000 different pictures of Honda EU2000i's and I could pick mine out.

Great to hear you got it back.

Everything I own of value like that gets my initials scratched into it somewhere.

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.
    • JerkinLips
Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

👍 when/if i get drawn.....which i should know about june 1 we'll get in touch........both my kid and myself should get drawn.   and thanks.........with 6 preference points............i think are odds are pretty good.............there giving out 375 permits......and since we had yogi and booboo destroy my birdfeeders last spring......🙄

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?
    • Mike89
but if he really wants I can change the date..
    • Wanderer
As soon as I started reading mind went to needles and seats.  You might want to try just replacing those first?  I’ve only done that once before in my life but it made the difference.  A carb refresh in 8,000 miles seems reasonable.

Good luck smurfy!  On getting drawn, I mean!   If it comes down to it, I know a guy that might be interested in a nice hide.
