ive heard tell that buffalo has 6 inches. Also heard that some smaller lakes in the west metro have 3-4 inches and people are out. I went out today ato try and see about the conditions but the lakes looked sketchy and i didnt see anyone out there nor any foot traffic but this information was given to me by the local bait shop. Anyone else doing any fishing in the metro?

Talked to somebody who said wheelers and sleds were out on lakes in isanti with 6" but I haven't been out to check.

Theres not 6" on Buffalo at least where I checked anyhow,if there was people would be allover the lake

checked one lake and it was 7 inches right at shore and only 3.5 inches over the 9 foot contour line.

What's wrong with 3.5"? that is fishable, we were on 3.5-4" in the Isanti/ Zimmerman area over the weekend

Fished on 3-3.5 inches on a lake in Chisago on Monday. No ice cracking, it was really safe...

Spring Lake in Scott County still had a lot of open water as of yesterday!

White Bear East Side is OPEN water.

Lake Elmo was 99 % Open 2 days ago.

That said I will prolly ice fish this weekend on a shallower smaller lake.

I will use the chisel every other step and drill test holes and measure every so often as well as wear a life vest, have picks and a cell phone in a Ziploc if I go alone.

Remember ice varies and 5 ft deep by shore can be much different than 20 ft deep 1/4 mile out.

Good Luck and

Be Safe Out There!

Buffalo does not have 6 inches of ice. Saw one guy out there though

Buffalo should have enough ice by this weekend I'd think.

As for me, I'll be going up to Red Lake: fishing all day, eating pizza and playing video games during night at a friends house.

On Monday 25-30% of Green was still open at the North end. The bigger deeper lakes will need a bit more time to freeze up. With the cold came strong winds which didn't help lock up the bigger lakes.
