has anyone ever been able to get that motor to run decent? its the earlier model with the compression relief. another 50 bucks at the shop and it still runs like dump. its always had that hesitation when you hit the gas so you really have to feather it to get the rpms up but it will cut holes once you get it up there a bit.don't like to idle very long. when i had my mag lll never had a problem with that one till it finally wore out.

mine works...I have had issues in the past but nothing that has kept me from completing the task of cutting holes. It has ran better since I had a tune-up and it gone through at the big lake shop (H2O) after strikemaster closed in big lake

Most of those only had one adjustment screw on the carb the replacement tec. carbs typically have 2. With the 2 adjustments I can dial them in a lot better. Also what are you running for gas and oil mix?

amsoil 50:1

the only adjustment screw is for the idle speed, no carb adjustment.

Mine seems to run the best with high octane gas and Amsoil Saber at 80-1.

I hate to say it but your not going to get far with a fixed jet carb on those engines. You can try playing around with fuel ratios but remember those engines were originally designed to run on a 24:1 fuel mix with no real internal changes when techcumseh started recommending 50:1. All that said one of my favorite augers to use is a 2hp Tec. power head with the shaft milled down to take the 6" hand auger.

Did you try participial choke while drilling.

Does that improve the bog?

Typically if it bogs the diaphram either needs adjustment or replacement. Very common problem. You can find some videos on u tube on how to adjust and/or replace these.

its a lazer mag express lightweight. they put in a gasket kit. governor spring, gas line,spark plug yes you need to work the choke to keep it running trying to to hit that fine line to either it dies or if its too rich it will bog and die when you hit the throttle. once you get drilling it works fine

Order a new carb and be done. 99% of problems with small engines is the carbs.

I will add that mine is always finicky with the first hole bogging down no matter how long I let it idle but once it hits water I don't have another problem and can drill hundreds of holes after without it bogging down....always thought it as normal! haha

After you drill a hole and its warmed up does it still bog and die unless you feather the choke?

In your opinion is the idle high or low?

What are you mixing at?

Last time you changed the spark plug.

Check the videos on YouTube on diaphragm carb adjustment. I adjusted the inlet tab under the pump diaphragm. Not sure if it was the warm weather today but it took all the hesitation out of mine. Sounds like the same motor carb combo. Used same gas. Bogged out before I made the adjustment today. I didn't change the carb kit. I put a new kit in a year ago and it didn't get better. Thanks for the info to check it out.
