Does anybody have any ice/fish reports for tetonka? Was thinking about trying it this weekend for the first time for some walleyes.

Posted

Haven't been on it since the 22nd, but eyes and perch were on fire in 12 fow.

Found between 2-5 at that time.

Also found some really sketchy ice on French monday too. Some areas 5.5", some areas crack when walking (Typically 2-3")

Was going to ask the same- heres what i have- I was there with a buddy last sunday and the ice was extremely sketchy. Slush on top in ALOT of areas and ice that would crack under your feet in spots. We walked around the shoreline a ways down from the landing and just ended up setting up about 30 ft off shore in 10ft of water. Never had more the 3.5"- 4" in any hole and some of the holes only had around 1" with slush on top. Needless to say we caught nothing but couldn't get anywhere we actually wanted to fish. BE VERY careful if you venture out this weekend. I imagine the ice is in a LITTLE better shape now because of the cold this week but there may be THIN spots. We never went more then 30-40ft off shore. The snow messed her up pretty good

clear lake in waseca had 6 inches of ice where i fished last night. was also a wheeler out there in the same area.

Posted

Washington had 7 - 8 inches of good ice where I was at last night. Lots of slushy areas on the way out. Took the wheeler out with no issues. Sleds and wheelers out all over the place. Fishing was slow but good to be back on the ice!

I have fished Washington the last couple of times I have been out. I have found 7-8 inches of black clear ice topped with an inch of white ice, where there is no slush or snow. In the snow and slushy areas I have found as little as 4.5-5 inches. Ice varies quite a bit. Four wheelers driving all over. Be careful and check the ice especially this coming week. Fish safe and good luck!

I was out at Duck last night and found 4-6" anywhere I drilled. There was some slush on top, which I'd imagine will only get worse this week. Hopefully it melts and refreezes into some nice solid ice. Felt great getting out though!

Someone fell into tetonka last night. Walking.

Be safe

Just wondering if you know the general vicinity of where the person fell thru on Tetonka

Thanks

Any name released? for the guy who fell through on Tetonka.

Any name released? for the guy who fell through on Tetonka.

And is he OK??

Posted

It wasn't me. wink Even though I got more than a dozen call about who went down, I haven't hear who. I found 7" down to 3", be safe and spud your way out, the lake froze over very uneven this year.

Yes he's fine.

I fished the bay on the east end of Lake Frances yesterday; I had about 6" of ice there. Any snow or slush on top of the ice was gone. There were more people on the west end, but I decided to avoid the crowd and fish the end of the lake in Elysian.

The tip-up fishing was good, with my best fish this 27" Northern:

I also caught a couple hammer handle pike, and some fat largemouth. The panfish were nowhere to be found, so I was glad I bought shiners for my tip-ups.

I was on the North side of Elysian yesterday. A little water on top in spots but ice was solid and clear with about 1 inch cloudy ice on top. Was 6-7 inches where I drilled.

was on clear in waseca on saturday 12/13 ice was good clear ice, had about 6 inches out there. caught a hand full of perch crappies and sunnies, enough for a couple meals.

anyone else out there?

Perchslayer, in another post from today, that you started, both Scott K and Max Goldman said 2"-3" on Washington. Not sure who you heard 7+ inches from. I can't speak for others, but I rely heavily on this site for ice conditions, and personally appreciate first hand accounts vs. hear say. I'm sure you are trying to help, but sometimes relaying what other people are saying can muddy the waters a bit.

I also haven't heard "Duck lake" and "nice walleyes" in the same sentence for a long, long time :-).

My friend just told me. He could be wrong but i just said what he said.. it varies. those are rough estimates.

I will ask him again.

or...make reports from what you see. That usually works pretty good.

I'm not knocking you, I just don't like seeing inconsistent reports knowing how people, myself included, rely on this when venturing out on the ice.

Has anyone been out on the ice on Clear lake by Lexington? Thinking about walking out there tomorrow possibly and wondering about thickness. Thanks

Posted

Saturday had around 7 inches but haven't checked after the warm and rainy weather on Sunday. Fishing not so good.

Posted

I haven't fished Lexington so I don't know ice conditions but a few people have been out there this week.

Posted

Anyone checked out tetonka in the last couple days? Thinking about tip toeing out there tomorrow. Is the ice still extremely sketchy?

Posted

I was out on Clear by Lexington on Friday afternoon. Ice still varies from spot to spot. I had some spots I drilled that were 7-8, other spots the ice was cracking as I walked and I found only about 4+. Take care and bring safety items like picks, etc.

Those flooding problems are a sign of your needle and seat are leaking.  If the needle has a ring around the tip you can clean it if it's brass. If it has a black rubber tip then it needs to be replaced. You can clean the needle and seat with things like rubbing compound or even toothpaste I use a product called Semi chrome. It for polishing die pins. Just clean them up after polishing.

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

👍 when/if i get drawn.....which i should know about june 1 we'll get in touch........both my kid and myself should get drawn.   and thanks.........with 6 preference points............i think are odds are pretty good.............there giving out 375 permits......and since we had yogi and booboo destroy my birdfeeders last spring......🙄

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?
