I tried to fish Lake Independence today however the launch has been closed since 10/6 for Zebra Mussel eradication. I didn't here anything about that one.

i believe they said it was suppose to only be closed like 3 weeks looks like its gonna be much longer

I saw they had it closed off a couple weeks ago wasn't sure what was going on.

I too was victim to the unannounced closure. It's about a 45 minute drive for me, didn't kill my day, but I was really looking forward to fishing there. Ended up getting a muskie on a different lake, so it ended up OK. I hope they open it for at least a little while before ice!

Id like to post a quote from another thread to prove a point.

Is this the only lake that is closed due to rich pricks, I mean zebra mussels? They can have that da** lake. Idiots where bound to destroy that lake before the zebra mussels do.

Lake Independence Boat Access Closure Update

October 24, 2014

The District intends to extend the closure of the Lake Independence boat access in Baker Park Reserve into early November to conduct a more aggressive treatment for zebra mussels in that area. Three chemical treatments have been conducted within the barrier surrounding the access area since October 6. Results have been mixed, due primarily to restrictions on the dose of chemical that can be applied under the current product label.

The Minnesota DNR expects to obtain a variance to this restriction that will allow us to treat more frequently and at higher doses inside the curtained off area, subject to certain monitoring requirements. Those applications could start as early as Thursday October 30, and we would need to keep the barrier in place for up to a week after the start of the treatment sequence to achieve maximum effectiveness. Ideally, the boat access would be re-opened no later than the week of November 10. We ask for your patience as we test this new zebra mussel control strategy on Lake Independence.

Yeah. That'll work out well I'm sure. Because those zebes are probably all contained within their barrier. LOL.

One might not have been enough, I think two stickers would be better.

It seems more and more dumping of chemicals into our lakes is the DNR's answer for everything now.

I'm not so sure the DNR is behind this. They are only interested in the results. I believe the lake associations and the city are driving this.

What a bunch of junk. I think that they could have tested the chemical treatment some where other than the boat launch as I am sure the Zebra Mussels are not confined to that area only.

Well, on Christmas lake they are convinced that they are confined to the landing area. Therefore the landing will remain closed. Same here I suppose.

Expect these landings to be closed well beyond their projected timelines. These people now have the ammo to make sure they stay closed indefinetely.

Hopefully the people we elected yesterday won't continue making silly laws to restrict our access to public waters. I understand that most candidates up for election yesterday were unwilling to provide a stance on AIS. This makes them susceptible to persuasion from rich property owners.

It was still closed today.

Those flooding problems are a sign of your needle and seat are leaking.  If the needle has a ring around the tip you can clean it if it's brass. If it has a black rubber tip then it needs to be replaced. You can clean the needle and seat with things like rubbing compound or even toothpaste I use a product called Semi chrome. It for polishing die pins. Just clean them up after polishing.

All of those Polaris sleds from that era were notorious for flooding and leaking. I've still got a 2003 XCSP 600 Edge that my daughter rides. As you noted, you need to shut off the fuel in those situations.

Yes, but it could make for an amazing walleye opener.

How old is your belt?   My old Polaris 4 wheeler with belt drive was bogging at mid range to top end last year.  Changed the belt and that problem went away.

Previous owner (22 years and 5,000 miles ago) said it was prone to flooding when sitting for a long time or trailering, so I shut the fuel off in both cases.   Primary is significantly worn.  I replaced several rollers and pins which helped.  I have two used clutches in much better condition that I could (and should) install.   It seems more like when I hit the throttle, but the bog could be from poor clutch shifting.  Will have to pay attention next time and inspect the clutches.  Thanks for the ideas.

Nope, he beat me fair and square, all his.  This weather had been depressing. As it sits now we are looking at a later than normal ice out. I hate scrabbling with docks, lifts, boats right before opener. Also limits some pre opener crappie chances.

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?
