Twins drive for 90 losses...

Recommended Posts

Big Dave2

I believe attendance is based off of Tickets sold, not butts in the seats. During some of those weekday games, I swear the two outfield upper decks look almost empty. On weekends they seem to fill up though.

And, the few people that are in those seats are mostly paying half price for their tickets. Have you checked out the "for sale" pages on Facebook lately? Full of deeply discounted Twins tickets. The "new" wore off the stadium fast when the product it is producing is putrid.

Buddy of mine buys his tickets from the scalpers when he goes to the games 3-5 times a year. Last game he was too not that long ago, he told me he got 2 tickets and fairly nice ones for $5 each. he did buy that at the last minute when they go for almost nothing.

Pretty cheap tickets to go to a game, but, pretty cheap team to watch.

The Twins are a garbage orginization.

Run by clueless people.

They are the laughing stock of MLB.

Maybe not, since Jim has taken over, the team makes money, guess that is all he is concerned about.

I see no changes unless the team starts to lose money.

have to remember, some owner are in it for the money and some are in it for the money and to win some also. Jim forgot about the winning and it shows but his profits are there so, no changes until the bottom line goes red.

Gardy won with teams built and started by TK. He has not won with his own coaching of players that come up in the organization.

I don't really believe getting rid of Gardy will change much, but I do think it's just time for a change. Granted Tony LaRussa wouldn't have won 80 games with this crew but sometimes new ideas, new ways of doing things are just needed. His way of doing things seems to have run its course and really isn't inspiring anyone anymore. There's no doubt we are in desperate need of a new pitching coach.

One thing that strikes me is how many guys get better when they leave the Twins and how few get better when they come to the Twins. Phil Hughes is maybe the only guy in the last 10 years who I could argue has had an "up year" when joining the Twins mid-career.

I know we are already on the same side as far as replacing mgr and staff but disagree that it is a given that no other mgr would do better with this roster. I'd argue that a good manager the past 4 seasons could have had this team back to .500 or better ball by now. good chance that the roster would look a little different too had a top mgr been in charge last 4 seasons. some of those many players who started playing much better after moving to a different team likely would still be here and producing under a better coaching staff.

I do get you are past wits end like a lot of Twins fans are.

So we can let slide a couple 2-3 Preposterously absurd deductions like the one above.

Molitor isnt ready I hope they go, when the time is right, with a coach with actual coaching experience.

Hog pile on Pier!.. grin

I new youd step up pier! So you are saying its time for gardy to go? I would agree if they finally decide to cut ties, its gotta be a whole new coaching staff with no twins ties.

When your first baseman has Gene Larkin- like numbers making $13 mill you won't win. Maurer needs to platoon in the outfield. Let Arcia or Kenny play first and DH.

Starting to hear some mention of possibility of gardenhire not coming back out there. Sure hope it happens. Another star trib poll asking if gardy and/or Ryan should be fired. Only 14% supporting gardy.

Surprised it was that high...I would guess Ryan's would be even lower!! I have been saying it for years "Fire Gardy!!!" Good guy but we need change in the organization and that starts with Ryan and includes Gardy!!

Caught the end of tonites game. After tigers won bremer was talking about "another championship" for the tigers. Get so tired of anyone with this organization and how they consider winning the division a huge deal. I highly doubt the tiger organization is content with a division "championship".

I agree. I like the sound of Dick's voice but he can be very nauseating. It's also annoying when teams celebrate winning the division or a wildcard with a champagne party. ALCS or NLCS wins maybe, World Series for sure, but wild card???

Bummer, the Twins hit 70 wins. Now the owners can say, "Look, we hit 70 wins, what an improvement this Year! Another on the cheap player here and one there and we'll be set for 2015." We'll see I guess. Maybe they will surprise us and spend some money, but I

m not holding my breath.

Coming down the stretch I was hoping the the twins would lose a few more games, however, I really wanted Kansas City to win the division over the tigers. So it kinda' sucked a little more watching the twin lose this particular series.

Dang. I missed my prediction by one game. They were better than I expected.

So with Gardy gone, how many of the other Twins coaches will be gone as well?

I blame the front office more than Gardy for the position the twins are in.

Any new reports of ice conditions around Mankato?
    • Borch
Just remember that ice with current has 1/2 the strength as ice without current.  So in the example you gave you were actually sitting on 1 1/2" of what regular ice will hold.
    • Bucketcastle
@Rick, good point, I haven't done much backwater fishing.  I have found myself on 3" with a solid current under the ice and ice cracking under my bucket while I sat on it.  I literally crawled away to thicker ice.  I'm not putting myself in that scenario ever again.

On the south end...  Ice fishing has begun!  Many resorts have fish houses out with others watching ice conditions in the area they fish for the right time.  Below zero temps this week will help.  Some ice roads are open to ATV and snowmobile traffic.  Check with your resort / outfitter prior to coming up.  Fishing has started out excellent as expected.  Most finding walleyes and saugers in 21 - 26 feet of water.  A shallow bite happening in 18-20' morning / evening.  The norm of jigging one line and dead sticking the other line working well.  Good numbers of fish being caught with some trophies mixed in as well as pout, perch, tullibees, sturgeon and an occasional pike.  Very little snow on the ice.   On the Rainy River...   Most of the river is frozen over with a few random spots still showing open water.  There is no traffic on the river at this time while ice is forming.  Extra caution is always needed with current and this year the current is stronger than most years.   Up at the NW Angle...  Some resorts have a few fish houses out and initial fishing reports for walleyes are excellent.  Some areas still need time with high current this year.  Forecast is favorable with sub zero temps this week.  The majority of ice traffic is snowmobiles thus far.  It's a must to stick to resort marked trails or know the area you are traveling.

Also, on the topic of zebra muscles, scientifically it may show how they are terrible for a lakes ecosystem and whatnot, but you look at mille lacs for example, which is about infested as it gets with zebra muscles, yet it's currently a world class walleye, muskie, and smallmouth fishery. Now obviously you dont want to spread zebra muscles, they are invasive and its heavily illegal,  it just seems that their impact is overstated.

The trip is a fun time and we have been blessed with warm favorable conditions the last two years I've helped set it up.  Just hope it keeps up that way because every trip prior it was -20 or worse temps.     Thanks!  We've put a lot of work into it so far.  It isn't new but its new to us and that is the only way we could get what we wanted with the features we wanted.  Having a heated cab is amazing when going across the ice we actually had to take our jackets off prior to traveling across the ice.  I we made the rack for the back for hauling gear and giving us a little more space (PVC).  Ice fishing is our favorite season and when we figured we spent last year from weekend before Thanksgiving to April 22nd area on the ice every weekend its an investment that we will use.  We also plow out 5-7 driveways at the lake for neighbors so it helps cut down on the amount of time I am spending plowing when I have a 72" blade instead of a 60" 4 wheeler blade and not enough power to push big piles.

I can see all arguments and their points. I just logically think that everyone in america should have to follow the same laws regardless of race or culture or history 200 years ago. Maybe statistically this may be wrong somehow, but oh well, you're all entitled your opinion.
    • Sculpin
Could be worse guys, way worse.  You could have a deeper fishery, and have to account for "hooking mortality"  Such as it is at Mille Lacs.  I think everyone needs to understand that the old days are gone, and liberal limits, as we all once knew them, are rapidly becoming obsolete. LOTWS just went from 8 to 6 fish, and I would not be at all surprised to see it go to 5, or less, its just a matter of time. Everyone chatters about catch and release fishing, and the DNR would tell you that the majority of surveyed anglers, particularly at Mille Lacs are good with the concept. I don't necessarily agree with their methodology, but it is what it is.  Drive less, stop at Mille Lacs, and get your one fish, (maybe). It'll never be more than a two fish lake again, because the Bands will never, ever, compromise on their end of the harvest, nor on the co-management of the lake,  at the end of the day, they have no reason to. Red lake is the same. I think they may finally have it right, impact of zebra mussels notwithstanding. Time will tell. Get used to it, if you live long enough, like Kelly, you'll see worse.

I grew up in Winona (didn't ice fish back then) but the Mississippi River  is NOT to be messed with - it will always win.  Fantastic fishing, but definitely take baby steps in getting to know it.      Might be a good idea to Post in the SE MN section and see if somebody would let you tag along.
    • Random dude
I meant to say the tribal waters are the factory that keeps the popluation going,  we would fish out every lake we have control of if they let us.  Thank the Band and DNR for setting up a safe harvest limit and rules for everyone to follow that is building this great fishery back
