Read this on another site with photos of the road blocks at the access. I'm sure someone here can find out more.

It's the beginning of the end folks. We've officially lost control of our public accesses to a political battle. Yes, invasives species is a political topic, not a natural resource topic.

Wonder how many fish there gonna kill after they try and poison the zebs

Is this the only lake that is closed due to rich pricks, I mean zebra mussels? They can have that da** lake. Idiots where bound to destroy that lake before the zebra mussels do.

You're right. They can have this lake but what lake or lakes are next?

Just glad the Zebra Mussels were planted in multiple locations.

They will try an kill them at the access while they gain a foothold elsewhere.

Our elected officials and the DNR have their heads so far up their back side they could NEVER see daylight.

Does anyone know how much money has been wasted so far on this non sense?

I live in the west tonka area and drive by the spring park launch twice a day. There is always and I mean always someone there from the DNR with the water tanks and what not. Why? They are not at every launch so what about those trailers coming and going. What's the point then? Not to mention wildlife transporting them naturally. The zebs are there all ready and so what. You can all ready tell some of the bays have clearer water than in past years. Guess what the fish are still there. So what if the water is clearer and the weed lines will move out a little farther. When is the bad stuff gonna happen that we are spending millions on to prevent. The death and devastation.....when is that part gonna happen? When is the water going to turn toxic and make our lakes unusable???

Invasive species is just a perfect excuses to spend our tax dollars and raise license fees. This money could be better spent on stocking programs, shoreline restoration, and improvements to our public accesses. Or youth outdoors programs you know things that would make a difference in our world. What a joke and disappoint! They tell you they are doing all this in the name of protecting our natural resource and we should do it no matter the cost. I have yet to hear the part about the huge negative impact it will truly have on our waters. Yes it will change things like water quality and weed lines. Other than having them on your docks and boat lifts what is going to happen that is worth this point less effort to change or stop mother nature. Which we have never done before! Common carp the sparrow, Asian carp, pheasants, milfoil and many more that have been established that we didn't stop and the world is still ok.

Like it or not zebs are here and more than likely going spread across our state. Yes it will change things but so what, does change really warrant these actions. Look at milfoil. Has it destroyed or changed our fisheries? I would argue that Minnetonka wouldn't be the fishery it is with out it.

Sorry for the rant guys need to get that off my chest. I feel better now.

If you are wading out from your million dollar home (i know many are more than that) you could cut your foot on a ZM. That is the big deal. Really.

Under what authority was this lake closed?

Posted

"Since the discovery, the city and the DNR has closed the public boat access to allow for an emergency response." from WCCO article - not sure if that answers your question.

One of my questions is -- how do lake shore owners get their boats out this fall if the launch is closed?

Will the DNR be there to clean all their boats?

Just curious if it is closed to all, or outsiders?

Quote from above article by Dennis Anderson of the Star Tribune

Quote:
Joe Shneider, president of the lakeshore owners group, has said the landing would be closed until freeze-up. But Heidi Wolf of the DNR said Tuesday the agency will require the access to be reopened before then.

To cold for the other Chemical, so now they want to dump Potash (potasium Chloride) into the lake.

Money pit.

Evidently they don't want zebra mussels even if it means not having anything else but acidic (or would it be basic) water. Suppose that was maybe the goal in the first place. Get rid of the weeds, get rid of the fish, get the lake to themselves.

Hopefully the DNR cancels trout stocking on this lake. Those trout would be better served in another lake.

Does anyone have any new or additional info about the situation out on Christmas?

Posted

I was wondering the same, I know a couple weeks ago the gate was down and the barricade in the lake was getting frozen into the ice.

As of a couple days ago lots of open water still. Didn't stop in to take a look at the actual access, so can't say if we will be having an access available this winter or not. Article in the Strib today about Xmas lake.

I heard that too. But they will continue treating the public access area with ice melting chemicals.
