2014 Draft

Well with the rigged lottery out of the way, we can star talking about who will be drafted, or if Love will be traded for the number 1 pick?

I didnt watch the draft, but it sure looked as though LaVine wasnt all that thrilled to become a Wolf. Great Pick there Flip! Way to draft a player that swears in disgust as he is walking up to the podium that he was drafted by the MN Timberwolves!

Im not so sure it was in disgust. It appeared to me he was relieved and shocked to be actually drafted. Its funny how negative nelly's sure take the negative spin on things.

Having said that, the Timberwolves suck and should be relocated.

Never like players who play average and test off the charts at the combine so they have "unlimited potential"

I have watched the video a few times, it sure didnt look like excitement to me! Of course he is back pedaling his comments, he doesnt want his new fan base to hate on him already!

Never said he was excited. Said relieved and shocked. I dont believe he thought he would have been drafted there.

Apparently the Wolves told he and his agent they would pick him if he were there at 13. Dont you think they would have said something to the Wolves had it not been a place he "wanted to go"?

Basketball players are all primadonnas anyway. Look at Love as a prime example.

I am not too thrilled with our pick at 13 with what was left on the board but with getting Glenn Robinson III I am excited with that pick as I think he can be a contributor to this team. Was listening to Bilas and Colin Cowherd this morning talk about him and Bilas said he is young and had freshman numbers comparable with those of Napier but he has a higher ceiling and could be scary good in the next few years. I might agree that he could be good but I think this dude would have been better served by doing what Napier did and stay in school and get playing time rather than waste away on an NBA bench.

Glad we spent that pick on a guy who didn't even start in college lol. And when your happy about something, especially about being drafted much higher than expected you don't drop your head on a table and say f*** me with a look of disgust on your face. He did not want to come here. His agent told him exactly how he was going to cover his a**. "Say you were just in shock" crazy

If he is their SG of the future, where does that put them with their deal with Golden State? I've heard the talks are just stalled and this deal could very well still happen. Do they try to play Klay Thompson at SF?

He would probably gets included in the deal or he backs up Klay and becomes a tradable asset or when Klay doesn't resign he steps up...

Well, the Wolves already said no to giving up the #13 pick in the deal with GS so I'm guessing they won't include him in the deal for Love.

Yeah but they said no at a time they didn't know who they would end up with and they probably figured they could get that deal even after the draft so why not wait...in fact I think they won't deal Love until september/oct

Anyone else think Zach Levine is destined to spend some time in the D-League this year? Seemed like the prototypical "potential" pick. Even if he pans out it probably won't be for 2-3 years down the road.

Hopefully im wrong but I see a wasted pick

I dont think so. He is probably this years best slam dunker. He is very athletic. I see him pairing up with Rubio nicely. There will be a spot for him on the bench. I can see him getting about 15-20 minutes a game for the first half of the season, then adjust for how he is playing.

He's got the tools to be really good, but the fact that he averaged 9 ppg at UCLA last year and didn't even start kind of worries me. I know he was playing behind the coach's son, but talent should ultimately win out.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.

My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.

That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better

Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.

Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.

Looking for recommendations on scope or red dot    I basically hunt turkey and whitetail, live in southern MN. So it’s all deer/ shotgun    looking to add a scope/ red dot as my eyes don’t work like they used to to with the open sights.    my gun options are 11/87 12. Browning BPS 12    not looking for the most expensive or the cheapest    pros and cons of one over the other

That's good news. I haven't seen any ice in Black Bay yet, but it looks like the small bays should start to freeze up this weekend. Hopefully we make some ice next week.   Below is the forecast for Cook. We should have temps mostly below zero . The bottom section below shows that it should not be windy, and no snow is predicted. All good signs for making ice.
