Draft in a couple of weeks, we pick 18, should be some decent players in that area. No one is perfect but I like the way our management has been drafting. No 2nd rounder because of the Moulson trade.

I wonder what Moulson will fetch as a free agent? If he is reasonable I say sign him. The guy knows how to score goals.

I also wonder what Nino's contract is going to look like. I hope it's something like 4 years $3m per or less..

Bye bye Heatley and Bryzgolav! Now if they can find away to send Brodziak packing..

Pass on Moulson, he's not bad but he is just a little too slow and soft for me, not sure he has an extra playoff gear.

The kids will probably get 2-3yr deals. If we go for anyone, it's going to be nothing more than that 2-3yr term veteran who can help bridge the gap between the kids being kids and turning into vets.

I hope we get Stoner back. Moulson is gone for sure. Brodziak is only a year from being gone.

I'm interested to see what happens on draft day, just because it's Fletcher. I also want to see what Folin looks like in Sept. He could be a nice addition.

+1 Better way to spend those dollars and fill a jersey than on him that is for sure!

Anyone think the Wild will take a run at Brad Richards with his recent free agent status? He might make a solid addition to the 2nd line, as long as they don't try to give a 34 yr old a long expensive contract.

I could possibly see Brad Richards in a Wild sweater but only for the right price. Should be interesting how much he will get.

I'm still thinking the Wild will be making some kind of move via trade but I haven't heard a lot yet.

Rangers just bought that guy out for $20m.. I'd pass unless we can give him a contract that fits a 2nd line player.

I'm predicting a WILD week ahead. Fletch to make some kind of big move.

I'll say Brodziak/Backstrom are moved along with a prospect or 2. I'd love to see Evander Kane in a Wild sweater!!!

The Brodz and Backs trade idea has certainly been picking up steam. Key there is Backs health. Which from what I read earlier he has been improving greatly. He needs a clean bill of health or no one will touch him. His contract isnt that bad. Pretty cheap actually. That wouldnt be the red flag for a trade, just the injury piece.

The draft is tonight. Will be interesting to see what happens up to the Wild's pick. Fletcher was quite clear what they were planning to do in the draft. They could jump up, drop back or stay where they are. Interested to see if he keeps his word. :-)

Brodz won't bring much that's for sure. Fletch indicated Moulson, Bryz, Prosser, Heatley, Rupp will not be re-signed.
I am fine with all those non-moves. Brodz may not get much, but bundle him and a pick and we can get some value I think. He is solid on faceoffs and PK, so there are teams that are looking for a 5th line center. :-)

imo Brodziak is the type of player that you hardly notice. Doesn't make alot of mistakes and plays pretty average. Doesn't produce alot offensively but doesn't cost us. There's gotta be a below average to average team out there that needs a depth player and he's not a bad option.

Well I wanted the Wild to get bigger and Tuch has that. From what I watched the last couple days I was really liking Sonny Milano around 18 but Tuch is the bigger body...... except now I have to pull for another BC player (Gilmor), ICK!

I like that pick. Milano is a YouTube sensation but wonder how that will translate to college and the pros. He has good hands but I agree the size of Tuch is what we needed there.

Why does the NHL let about 6 poker faced management level staffers march onto the stage just to hand the draftee a hat and jersey and take a photo?

Then they walk off and most of the them leave the draftee to bring up the rear.

The NFL and NBA system is better. Just a photo with the commissioner and the team managers can do they're photos in the media room later.

I suspect the Wild wanted Milano too but happy to have Tuch, big and skilled, sounsd like another Nino or Coyle type player and who doesn't want more of those guys around.

Milano does look great on youtube but they do need to get bigger. The Finnish goalie intrigues me a bit.

A 17 year old at 6-1 209 might not be the type of goalie you want to crash the net on. His agent says he has more of a power forward type build, I guess so.

It's hard to hype up the NHL draft when most of the kids won't be playing for a while.

Here's a thought. Sign Nisky and then shop Brodin to Peg for either Kane or Buff. Package a pick and Brodziak.

Hmm that's an interesting proposition but I'm not sure I'm willing to give up Brodin. I guess it would depend where Folin or Oloffson high point then we would have some flexibility.

Brodin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Buff, we better be getting players/picks back in that one.

Nisky will get 5milX5yrs, too rich for us. I hope we don't go for Vanek, unless it's a short, short deal. He's 30, we're young, 3yrs max with enough room to retain out young'ns. Otherwise, pass.

If we can get Nisky for $5m per for 5 years I say take him! It sounds like he'll have offers for 7 yrs though. He can play either side, captain the powerplay and score some goals.. oh ya and he was +33 last year..

Yeo is meeting with Vanek today to go over line up possibilities and what not so maybe he'll be able to convince him not to take those 6 yr $7m contracts and some here lol. I'll be surprised if they can reach a deal but what do I know?

And ok, then Brodin for Kane.

Other interesting posibillities are Iginla and Thornton?

Reading Russo, it it sounds like Iggy is a long shot, mostly because he wants to resign in Boston and Boston wants to resign him. I guess Boston just needs to clear a bit of room.

Would be nice to have a guy like Iginla here.

Wanting to sign someone and needing to clear cap space can be difficult. What I think may hurt the wilds chance a iginla is he may hold off to see what Boston can do.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
