Wow was interesting to see the report on Round lake on the DNR webpage stating that the walleye population is the WORST it has been in 30years. Fished it 2-3 times last year and thought that the lake wasn't near what it use to be, but the DNR report confirmed it.

So, what do you think happened to cause it to be like this?

People from IA coming home with limits.

ice fishing. cell phones, internet report, double dipping, 6 fish limits, there are multiple reasons..

Has nothing to do with what state youre from

The DNR survey from 7/13 said the lake was average with 7.3 per lift.

2004 was 2.9.

Sorry, Wrong Round. I thought I was on the Niswa area report.

I think the 6 fish limit has everything to do with the issue. A lake goes hot and you have 30-50 boats with 2-4 guys taking 6 fish limits it doesn't take long to fish out the year class that has established. Its not about out of state people taking fish. The same could be said for all the Minnesotans headed to South Dakota to catch fish. I think the reality is MN needs to look at a maximum 4 fish limit and even a 14" minimum length on walleye. If you want to keep 12" fish there are plenty of perch lakes around.

I thought it was pretty clear the out of stater stuff was a joke. Maybe I need to use more smiley faces.

I agree 100 percent with the 4 fish limit and a minimum length. I have sent emails and left phone messages to Ryan doornbos (not sure I spelled his name right) and no reply I feel if there is enough people that feel the same way we should all get together and push for changes. The dnr is quick to make changes on the bigger lakes when the population is down on them why can't the same happen down here? I realize those lakes bring in more money for the state but why can't we have good fisheries down here? Look at clear lake by Jackson that lake got hit really hard the last few years now nothing from what I've been told. Just saying. Any thoughts?

Clear Lake is an excellent example 2 years ago when the lake was hot for opener and there were 50+ boats taking dozens of walleyes. It didnt last long and the lake hasnt had a solid run since. How many people need 6 walleye in one day for a meal? How many end up in the freezer and later in the trash. I'm not sure what it takes to get limits changed and minimum lengths enforced. if you and people you know support the idea I would contact your local conservation organization to start. many of these organizations work with the DNR and should be able to find out if it is possible.

Havent bought a Mn license in 15 years, so I know Im not the problem, but I know alot of ppl that fish in MN.

Blows me away that there is still a 6 fish limit in this day and age. And thats for every man, woman and child in the boat. Dont need 4 men if theyre on the feed.

Grew up fishing Sarah, Shetek, Benton, Loon, Clear, Rock, Okabena. All great fisheries in their day, and still occasionally, but the information highway leads right to the boat ramp on whichever lake gets hot. Not so much via the internet, as you would have to literally be a fool if you posted a report with no regards to how many people see it. But, you send one text out to a friend, and I bet youd be surprised at how it blows up.

Its just like this thread. 8 replies in 6 days, but 864 views.. If this was a positive report, somebodied be on here complainin about how long they had to wait at the ramp on Saturday..

My question to everyone that has posted or viewed this is, if you believe in what we are talking about if a meeting was held with the dnr would you attend? I ask this because I believe in this with all my heart and am willing to take this challenge on if I have some support. If you stand behind this or know others that are, please keep posting or pm me at [email protected]. if this keeps going or I get enough pm's I will be making more phone calls.

Please everyone we need changes!!!!

I think the 6fish limit is crazy! here in Iowa its basically a limit of three. Plus they lets us fish up to three lines if you buy the third line.

Also add in the fact that here in the deep SW Corner of Mn the natural reproduction is virtually nill. Thus it takes stocking. Some stick, some don't. When it does, everyone goes crazy and wipes it out. Hard to blame people, but it's true. I myself have been guilty of taking 6 when I likely didn't need too. Now, I have never thrown any out and not eaten them. I too would love to see a 14 or 15 inch minimum and wouldn't mind a 4 fish limit. But blasting Ryan Doorenbos as stated above isn't the answer. Talk to him, but he doesn't make the call, just remember that. Be courteous, state your point, and move on. The fact that we still get DNR staff like that in our area is a blessing.

Hey Chad who blasted ryan? All I can see is that I left messages and have got no reply. Not sure if that's what you are referring to as blasting but I sure am not meaning that as a blast just making a statement.

Anyone been on Round this year after all the rain? Thinking/hoping that it dinally brought the lake level back up. it was getting ridiculously shallow.

The savages that double and triple dip or worse can hurt a lake faster than a boat with 3 or 4 guys pulling a limit. Because the savages go back day after day until there are no more fish. I would love to just start naming names of some of these idiots but I won't. The one thing I know is everyone knows at least one of these clowns that can't throw a fish back if there lives depended on it. I would personally like to see the game warden around a bit more when these lakes start hitting.

Posted

The problem is the wardens have a lot of places to cover and can only be one place at one time. Sometimes you have to give up some names to help them out. Give the TIP line a call.

So true. We definitely do not have enough CO's. I wouldn't hesitate calling TIP if I saw this happening. These fish hogs need to be held accountable for their raping of our lakes.

You could try just motoring up close to them, get some good iPhone photos of their boat license and the people sitting in it. You don't have to say anything. You can email that stuff to DNR with your concerns and they can look into it. It's TIP plus evidence, but it makes the DNR prove it. Make sure your Date/Time stamp is current.

I couldn't agree more with the fact that, you control the situation here. Call the tip line and report the suspicion. It's kind of like politics, if you don't like how something is being done, get active and become part of a group to instill change, or run yourself.... in this case, get part of a group to stop potential illegal activity or call the tipline yourself. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer here, but you cannot be mad that nothing is being done, if you are not doing something yourself. protect what you respect!

In those years Polaris was known to put buna tipped needles in there sleds. They get a ring around the seat and don't seal shut. But if that would be the case your problem would be with the motor shut off and filling the crankcase with gas. If your plugs are brown that is were they should be. I wouldn't drop that needle down to the last grove. I would replace them before I did that. I have never had a carb with that setting. Have you looked at your clutches? They could be dirty or have a bad roller.  Does it bog as it's accelerating or when you hit the throttle?

but if he really wants I can change the date..

As soon as I started reading mind went to needles and seats.  You might want to try just replacing those first?  I’ve only done that once before in my life but it made the difference.  A carb refresh in 8,000 miles seems reasonable.

Good luck smurfy!  On getting drawn, I mean!   If it comes down to it, I know a guy that might be interested in a nice hide.

My 30 year-old Indy 500 (over 8,000 miles) has been having a mid-range bog for many years now.  It is worse on warm days and when the engine is warmer.  The sled runs fine up to about 1/4 throttle, then runs extremely rich up to 3/4 throttle.  The spark plugs are dark brown (better brown than down?) but not saturated.  8 years ago I moved the clips on the jet needles from the 3rd to the 2nd groove to lean the mixture and it helped for a while.   Should I move the clips to the top groove (temporary solution)? Could the jet needles, needle jets, and/or the main jets be warn and need replacement?   Don't think I will have time to tear the carbs apart this season for a rebuild so I may just band-aid the problem.

I think that Mike89 picked April 26 two hours before you, jparrucci.  Is that correct Mike89?

My last hide I gave to my Taxidermist friend to make what ever he liked out of it.   I've got a few fun Bear hunt stories to be told.  All 3 of us our first year stupidly tracking a blood trail in the dark together and getting lost, luckily smelled the bait making circles and got out. 🫣 Flash lights dying, deep in a swamp following a blood trail in the dark, the one who stayed at the bait called us back in!  We learned our second bear! Lol. 😞  Downing a wounded charging bear with the last bullet when tracking, no lie! 😬    Have had my fun!  🥳

I remember that kegel… stuff….!   just finished my post work latte as a matter of fact!  Only the second case of those I’ve ever bought.     I’d get Mike something better.

I still have hope. Put me down for my dad's birthday in April 26. Come on warm weather.
