So Its my bi-annual 4th of July trip to Knife Lake, reports are water is still high. Its a nice lake, but a bit crazy on holidays with all the traffic. Going to try to target some bigger northerns this weekend any suggestions. My nephew had on abut a ten pounder awhile back and is going through his big pike phase. would like to help him get one or two. Yes there are plenty of other lakes that finding big pike would be a lot easier, but the time and place have already been dictated so we plan on hiding out on the water as much as possible. I know this is not the best weekend to fish the lake with all the noise But I'll take on the challenge anyway. I welcome any suggestions, and does anyone know if you can get under the bridge down the river with the water level being what it is? Thanks

hope you had a good weekend, yes it was busy. i fished early am (430a) and pulled the plug durig the day. Norts have been few and far between for me. largest was 26 ". withe northern slot in place there are some big uns, but can be difficult to pinpoint locations. ive found the fall much more consistent.

How's the Ice on Knife? -- Are there any historical spots to watch out for in regards to thin ice throughout the year? - Springs, rivers, flowing areas....

Family purchased a cabin on the lake midsummer and have never iced fished it, but looking to this weekend or next.

Thanks

What part of the lake is the cabin? Knife Lake is fed by the Knife River, the south area near the fishing pier is tricky all year, it's the outlet under the county road 19 bridge. There is an access there as well as off of hwy 65. 65 would be my choice if you can't get on at your cabin. No issues that I've found other than listed, in 10 years there. Just check ice coninually as you go. its still awfully early. my cabin is on Jeneke Point

They are walking out from 65 and cabins. A couple people have been walking out since last Friday.

Ron have you heard any reports on ice thickness up there?

Thanks for advice. Cabin is on the South West side of the lake on Salmonson River Rd. The river is North of us by a few lots. I'm guessing most of the ice fishing is done at the North end of the lake?

Vlasin, younare correct north end is the deepest area of the lake. out in fron of your cabin is 6-7' with a couple of areas of deeper water. north end seems to be where they mkgrate to for the deeper water in winter. good luck, be safe

Not sure about ice thickness. ATV's. We're out according to my brother who was up there Friday. I'm going up this Friday.
