NON-HERO--

Not sure if this fits into the category or not but the picture of this bird and his colors makes it obvious why we love getting after these amazing birds in the spring time! God sure created something special with these guys!

HERO Submission #2- MN Eastern

Took this bird during the dreaded C season. Weather made harvesting this bird so much sweeter. Taken in SW Minnesota on 4/26/2014. Got within 100 yds of him and worked him in on a string, three gobbles later he was running into the decoys. Amazing hunt!

Don. Can you help me post some pictures on this photo contest? You can send me a pm and I will tell you the info. I had a couple on the turkey contest submission forum of the grandchildren that I want to submit. Also have some video of a Tom 20 yards from my Jake acting like he had a hen that he rounded up and was breeding this invisible hen. Awsome video and pretty cool. As he was breeding THIS NON EXISTING HEN it was so funny to see him go threw the routine and stop, keep looking back to see if my Jake decoy was watching him! Must have been tying to tick him off! Never seen something like that ever before and have it all on video. Also have a hen with a tom. Every time he would go make an advance toward my jake she would cut him off and start hitting him with her wing. All this time while she was in full strut to!! How do you put that on the photo submission forum also? Thanks Don, X1957X

Come on guys, lots of birds hitting the ground these days, lets see those photos.

Here's one of my own, just for fun:

Got some nice prizes up for grabs, including "Wet Box" box call, compliments Scoot, a bunch of can koozies thanks to Dotch, Surface Tension donated a nice Gerber pocket knife and Rick came up with an official "HSO" decal. If I have any wing bone turkey calls done by then, I'll toss one or two of those in the mix as well.

So, KEEP 'EM COMING!!!

Cool Pic Cheetah! What are they?

Coyote pups at their den. I have more photos too, but I like this one the best.

Cute kits! Just the two?

I saw four, but I couldn't get them all to hold still together for a family portrait.

3 non-hero shots:

I think this first one qualifies for non-hero- it's about the notching of the tag, not the bird itself IMO, so I'm entering it in the non-hero division.

The price will blow your mind if they get some

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

I hope to see it and believe it next week! Nice looking crappie

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

      Seeing is believing.

thats great to hear regarding the lake levels!!!!!!

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year
