There were comments by many Russians that if the Men's Hockey Team wins the ONLY gold medal in the olympics that is all that matters and if the Mens hockey team doesnt win gold that is all that matters.

Pretty devastating for them I think, but sad at the same time.

They have a ton of excellent winter athletes and put all the importance on Hockey where they apparently have a bunch of premadonnas that cannot handle the pressure.

Wow great game so far, Brown and Backes to make it 3-1 now but the Czechs are flying out there and good chances on both ends. I think Suter has two helpers so far.

Good guys playing great and up 4 to 1 with 9 left 2nd period. USA USA USA USA....

Canada and Larivia still tied up at 1 although Canada has really turned up the heat here. 6 minutes left 2nd period.

Nice to see Parise finally pot one. Just switched over to the Canada game in time to see them take a 2-1 lead, was hoping for a epic upset, still some time left.

Come on Latvia!

EDIT: Too much to hope for Russians and Canadians to both lose. Huge props to the Latvian goalie though, 52 saves!

The Canada/Latvia game was a heck of a lot more exciting than our game versus the Czechs. A few of the Latvians got roughed up in that one down the stretch but still took Canada to the wire.

Woohoo can't wait for Friday!!! Bring on Canada, should be an amazing game. I've never been to Finland but with all the Wild connections and my love of Sauna's I might as well adopt them as my 2nd country.

The Canucks haven't been able to come together up front and I think they'll have a real tough time getting enough scoring from the blue line to beat the US. Let's hope they didn't have a fire lit today with another close call.

A bit of trivia...while the USA/Canada semi-final is a rematch of the 2010 gold medal game, the other semi-final between Sweden and Finland is a rematch of the 2006 gold medal game.

Tre Kronor!

Big battles between countries that harbor a lot of hockey resentment towards one another trying to get to the gold medal game. Friday should be awesome! Go Wild!

Pretty convincing win against the Czechs yesterday.

I'm excited for the women's Gold Medal game today. I think I'll have to take a long lunch and watch the second/third or something. grin

The Women's Gold game today should be a thriller. I hope we can stop Canada's hot streak of winning I believe the last 3 Gold medal games.

We are good enough to hopefully break thier streak.

As much as I want to think we have the upper hand Canada is still Canada and they will be ready for us. I expect a pretty tight low scoring game. Hopefully Quick can display some of his 2012 form.

I am in no way discounting them and I know they will be ready. Just suggesting that the may have a confidence issue after playing several games and still not gelling. I just hope tomorrow isnt the day them "dirty Canucks" get it together.

Man how great are the semis going to be? Biggest rivalries in international hockey (Swedes/Finns, US/Canada) playing to get to the gold medal game? Gonna be cool

I can't wait for the Women's game today. Actually home sick and it's one of the few times I can remember being happy about feeling like crud, cuz I'm home from work and can watch the game.

Game should all come down to speed. If the US can use their speed on the big ice to get to the middle and break down the Canadian D, US wins. If the Canadians can keep the US to the outside and defend the middle, Canada wins...

Canada is going to try and be physical. If the ref's don't let the cheap stuff and the grabbing go the USA team should have plenty of power play opportunities.

I hope for good goals and a good game. I hate to see games with so much at stack decided by a fluke goal or ref's that don't want to call obvious penalties.

Go USA Men and Women!!

USA women have thrown some hard hit's also.

Hope the USA can keep the speed going but those hit's from the team from the north of us could take thier tole.

Hope we can find gold on a few of the power play's soon.

Just checked in on the Women's gold, the girls are flying out there, I'd hate to see what I would look like on that ice right now. blush

0-0 beginning of 2nd.

I remember the first time I saw girls hockey, many years ago and I was not impressed at all, but I will tell you (which you already know Im sure) they have come a LONG way in a few short years.

Man can these women (and girls) flat out play hockey now! So impressed.

USA is up 1-0. Keep it up gals!!!

And yes, I am with you, they would skate circles around me at this point in my career too. You would think I would be in a lot better shape for doing nothing but drink beer and eat hot wings all winter. :-)

I know right?

2-0 lead and 10 minutes to go, can't ever count out Canada but I like our chances.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
