I am agreeing to the 7th of December.

We have been out in the past by the Friday after Thanksgiving, not thinking that this year.

Plus I need to keep my mind on archery hunting until my tags are filled.

I have a local lake that almost every year, one can walk out by the St Paul Ice fishing show, bout the 5th of Dec.

For all other lakes, Dec. 10th.

I scouted across an ice covered drainage ditch already, it was only 6 inches deep, but I can say I walked on hard water already this year.

With this forecast and conditions we are encountering.

A couple more calm nights and we could be fishing on hard water BEFORE Thanksgiving.

Making it harder and harder to head to the woods with the bow thinking ice fishing is possible.

Maybe I will just have to take the heater and a fishing pole to the deer blind and pretend while I am still hunting. grin

The forcast for Outing Mn I checked for Deer hunintg this weekend will only be 5F tonight with a wind chill of 9- So, Ice is on the way. It's going to be cold in the Deer stand Sat morning! wink

I feel like if you wait two weeks from now you are going to miss some of the awesome early ice bite this year! My guess is you will see wheelers on the ice by then if the weather man is right (which, he probably isn't). The only thing we have to worry about the next few days is wind, if the lakes can lock up the ice will be at 4+ inches within days with the lows they are forcasting.

im gonna try to get out on turkey day that lake in my above post has stayed locked even through that heatwave and wind! with the cold the next week, im guessing three to four inches by next thurs......hoping anyway!

I got the dock and lift out today, It will be two weeks for tetonka is covered as its the last lake to freeze up.

the 28th of nov been the earliest ive been on the ice down here hope to beat that this year

If the current forecast for the next eight days is close to being right, you're not going to see better ice-making conditions before December very often in south central Minnesota.

I haven't made it up to the Waseca/Mankato area for a few winters now, but I am hoping I just might be able to make a road-trip there next weekend.

checked my favorite early ice spot this evening and if the conditions hold up throughout the weekend I will be on the ice by monday

The forecast looks VERY favorable for Turkey day spud barring! To be safe, I would say maybe Friday, though. Hopefully the wind dies down! Stay on top of it, everyone and anyone heading out!

Pepin lake by Montgomery is 1/3rd ice covered. With a forecast of a week with no temperatures above freezing, we're going to have fishable ice in a week and a half if not sooner.

We're trying to finish tillage and I think after tonight the ground will be locked up. Been getting harder all day.

      application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

      Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

      I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
