My archery connections for both North and South of Bemidji have told told me that the deer population and quality buck numbers are waaay down. Their cameras hunt 24 hrs a day and they have seen little for quanity and size. I hunt just north of Bemidji for rifle but hunt the cities exclusively for archery. The rut is super super late this year---2nd rutting moon not until Nov 17---next year Nov 6. I spent 13 hours in a tree this weekend in a huge satte park North of the cities and movement was nearly nothing but scrapping was prevelant. I saw NO evidence of the chase and according to the lack of shootng in the park..neither did anyone else. A week away yet.....

What's the status of deer seen this year? Especially the Paul Bunyan area.

I was wondering the same thing. We were up 3 weeks ago and no sign at all.

Was up 3 weeks ago and saw a lot of rubs. Cameras catching bucks moving together within an hour or two of sunset. Checked cameras the weekend of the 25th and had two bucks fighting on camera... Hoping they show up during the season this year! Strange thing for us is that we have not had a single picture of a doe this year. Typically we have the opposite problem. Headed up Thursday to get ready for opener - excited to see if they are still in the area. Good luck to all!

Very quiet up here this year. Not much shooting. We were fortunate to harvest 2 bucks. How did everyone do so far?

VERY quiet for us as well. Didn't see a thing except Wolf tracks. Gonna give it a shot again this weekend. Fingers are crossed.

Heard a lot of mixed reports around the Bemidji area. I've personally seen more deer in 2014 than I have since roughly 2007 or so, when we were in heavy intensive harvest. I don't believe it's that I was out more than usual, they just seemed to be everywhere. My wife and I tagged out, saw over 100 deer, and were lucky enough to have 4 bucks in range. My dad and uncle also tagged out NW closer to TRF.

      application has been submitted. 👍   Leech......i've shot my share of bear......it be nice to get another but not the end of the world if i dont. i get to spend time with my son...its just another way to get into the woods. i've been at it since about 1976......that rush when you walk up to the bait and see the logs scattered all over and bait gone just doesnt get old for me.   i had to get rid of 1 rug because of bad tanning. i have another rug, shoulder mount and made 3 pillows from 2 different bear hides. my biggest issue has become what to do with the hide....that seems more of a trophy then the meat. i inquired 1 year at the Alex decoy show when there were a couple hide guys there and they didnt seem to interested. 🙄 i have no other ideas for the hide.......approval from the wife is not even negotiable!!!!!

      Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll tell  ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

      I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.
