Manziel Debate

chains moving instead of TD? This is one of the very things people rip ponder for. Not able to hit a receiver in stride. We don't need another one.

LOL!!!! Johnny Football has 58 TD's in his 2 years of college football in the SEC. I'm pretty sure he knows how to get the ball in the end zone.

You have an opinion and are not able to read or comprehend. I SAID there is no qb worthy of a top 5 pick. NOT that there isn't one worth picking. Do I n e e d t o t y p e s l o w e r ?

I also never said they needed a mlb MORE than a qb. Try and keep up. QB is their biggest need but they have needs all over. Don't draft a position just because you need one with a high pick and reach for a player that could be had lower. Do you want a repeat of ponder?

I certainly wouldn't pick a mlb with a top 5 pick.

I SAID there is no qb worthy of a top 5 pick.

But yet there will be at least one if not more QB's picked in the top 5. Are you saying you know something these NFL scouts don't know? crazy

At QB? There aren't many choices bud. Is have to see what happens next year cause it sure ain't any in this class worth that tag. I'd roll with Cassel and pad the D with an OG in there.

Who's yours?

oh, I don't make those claims or predictions because that's not my job. Who does that sound like?

But yet you require predictions from everyone else. LMIT had it right, you are a fraud.

Huh, that sounds eerily familiar. Any original material or does LMT have your balls AND brain this week?

Seriously there isn't anyone as transparent as you two. Somewhat entertaining at times. Almost like watching sesame street.

Well I am finally back from my timeout so I will weigh in on this whole QB thing.

1. Bridgewater- Will be taken very early cause of his stats/numbers. Not sold on him at all. I dont like his delivery and he likes to hang onto the ball. Footwork seems a little slopply. He reminds me of the Jets QB.

2. Panziel- The guy has ALL DAY to throw behind that O-line, and he has some really good recievers. When he is flushed he carries the ball with one arm like a donk. He seems to like to lock onto a recievers and wait for the play to develop. He does have a strong arm, but hanging onto the ball that long in the NFL will get you killed and cause turnovers.

3. Derek Carr- I think he throws too many touch passes. I like a QB that really fires the ball like Brady or the old Silver Fox. He also seems to be flustered if you can hit him a couple times early and his mechanics turn to slop.

4. Aaron Murray- Blown knee. Not good. Doubtful he will be ready for a pro day or combine. I like him. Ran pro style offense, didnt have the best supporting cast. I thought he looked good going through his progressions. Pretty good mechanics, but needs to cut the INTs a little. He did play in the best conference in the country, and put up solid numbers. Looked good in couple 2 min drills I saw.

5. Tajh Boyd- Really good on throws under 20. Good footwork. Has a messy delivery once in a while. His recievers made a lot of plays for him over 20 yards. Dont like a QB that thinks he needs to run that much. Seems like a mix of RG3 and Donavon McNothing to me.

6. Brett Hundley- Might as well keep Ponder.

7. Zach Mettenberger- Blown knee

8. Marriota- Not coming out

I am guessing there will be 3 QBs taken top 10 (Bridgewater, Panziel, and Carr or Boyd) There should be a minimum of 4, but probably 5 taken in the first round.

If the queens really like someone right away they should take him. Trade up is out of the question. A trade down to around 10-15 get your guy and a little value would be best scenario. Any of them should be better than Flounder, and I hope whoever it is can sit behind Cassel for about 8-10 games and then get in there.

Buck, I like your takes but I'm not nearly as high Murray as you are. No team will take Boyd in rd 1 he's junk. I also don't think any is an improvement to Ponder, if anything it's a very slight one, definitely not worth a 1st rounder for the very slight gain.

I'll give myself a pat on the back and a toot toot on this prediction. Wow what a great foreseeable knee injury mind.....

You do realize that, if you blow lots of hot air, some of it is bound to turn out right, right?

Stick, I seen his knee was an issue, called out the fact that it will drive him down the board after many stated he was a 1st rounder. 2 weeks later he blows it out. Other then it coming out of my own horn Where was the hot air?

I nailed that one, your welcome.

You know something, it takes nads to throw out a prediction. Show yours, then you can comment. Is it cold in here or is it just you and Big Dave?

I'd roll with this idea...they should have went with Cassel all year IMO. I think the players like it much better when he plays too.

Just as long as they pick a viable starting caliber QB in this years draft somewhere. Murray, Mettenberg, or McCarron would be my top picks if not taking a QB with the 1st pick.

I still like Johnny Football with our 1st though....

this coming from the same guy who also says Cordell Stewart, Jake Plummer, Charlie Batch were notable QB's lol

How were they not notable? I think Batch is still employed! If you're going to attempt to rip me why don't you back it up.

Man, a bunch of ankle biters in here...

Since the Vikes look to have played their way out of the Teddy Bridgewater sweepstakes, and since there aren't really any other 1st-round-worthy QBs (at least nobody obvious), here's the Vikes' best plan: re-sign Ponder to a 1-year deal, go 1-15 next year, and draft Jameis Winston.

Just kidding, obviously. There is nothing that would make me want to suffer through watching Ponder flail about for another season.

Charlie Batch has been in league since 98, made $925k last season. If that's not notable then what is?

Kordell Stewart had a 10 year career and has a superbowl ring, again pretty notable.

Jake Plummer had a very solid 10 year career

To call these guys scrubs and put them in the same boat as ponder is crazy but go ahead and twist stats to try to prove your mute point Rundrave. You don't stay around in the league for 10 years and suck and that's a fact.

One maybe two more years and the Vikes will be ready to come in and snatch him up to be their starter! laugh

Good Luck!

I never called them scrubs, I didn't twist any stats I simply provided you hard FACTS and used them as comparison. they are all in the same boat as ponder and neither of those qb's ever amounted to or accomplished anything. They are all far from notable.

he played in super bowl xxx as a wide receiver/backup QB against the cowboys and the steelers lost. his stats that game: 4 RUSHES for 15 yards....

im not aware of him winning a ring?

my mistake, I thought he had a ring. Whatever, he had a 10 yr career most of which he started, being only 32 guys in the entire world can call themselves NFL Quarterbacks I'd say that's pretty friggin notable, but what does that all mean only your QBR matters, right? You're a complete nube man. These guys had lengthy CAREERS!!! Not a 1-2 yr career. Your thinking is WAY to remedial for me, Im done.

32 teams times 3 QB's per team equals 96, not 32. Also, many did not have continuous career, but have gone through a series of being dropped, not having a team for a few weeks, getting signed by another team, repeat.

Always a good day out of the house.  Hey moose, what kind of gun do you have a few grouse pictures back?
    • monstermoose78
Flushed 3 pheasants today with Hazel but they were flushing 50 yards a head of her. Then we went by some little berries that looked black and hazels tail started going a brown bird gets up I thought hen then the bird banked and it was a grouse. It was good to get her out in the woods. I seen a few pheasants in picked corn fields.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
