Timberwolves 2013-2014

The thing about us drafting Burke this summer is that we drafted him for Utah...If we drafted for ourselves we probably wouldn't have taken Burke and screwed up the draft that way!!! haha

Rubio needs to learn that other teams watch tape and his run to the baseline and pass back is a easy play to defend!!!

Make that 0-11 for games decided by 4 points or less.

Its hard to believe actually. That little bit is what separates us from being average to very good.

We're off the schneid! It's too bad that fsn thought that annoying treasure island commercial was more important than the final possession, but I guess if we got the win that's fine.

ugly game but we did what we had to do to get the W!!! Love did his thing now we have a tough back to back against Memphis and then off to Atlanta...if we somehow get a W over Memphis that will be a good boost going to ATL

Tough loss. Randolph dominated Love down low at the end of the game and the Wolves just settled for jacking up wild 3's. Don't really understand why Rubio sat on the bench the whole 4th, he was one of the main reasons they had the huge 3rd to get back in the game.

Somebody's gotta say it: Garnett got worse rosters into the playoffs. I know the West is deep, but at some point, Love has to guide this squad to the playoffs. 2 assists a game, his career average by the way, is not going to get it done. As gaudy as the scoring and rebounding is, he's been doing a lot of it with volume and a disregard for post defense in favor of rebound positioning.

Yes the bench is weak, but so is the Blazers and Warriors bench.

I'm getting sick of the excuses. Every week on talk radio, the hosts are expecting this Wolves win streak because so and so is back, or the schedule gets easier for a spell. And yet it's win one, lose one.

I know this season is pretty much a loss, as all the ones before it, but the Wolves are discussing trades for Miller, Prince, Allen, for JJ, Budinger, ad some other filler to get it done. I am not sure if this really helps the Wolves out at all in getting into the playoffs, but it does get rid of JJ, and a bad contract in Budinger, that has been injury prone recently.

Miller being Mike? No Thanks!!!! That might be reason alone to not watch the Wolves and I love watching the Wolves!! After the couple years he was here with us I sure don't want him back!!!! I mean really we brought him in to shoot and score and what does he do pass and rebound...not bad things but those aren't what we were paying him for and needed him to shoot more. I heard this trade rumor last night and it was Allen and Prince for JJ and Chase. I haven't followed how Allen has been the last year or 2 but Prince is another defensive guy and we have 2 players that are D specialists in Brewer and Luc...this trade has 0 in the excitement catagory but a 100 in the no mike miller catagory!!!

Andre Miller from Denver

Quote:

The Timberwolves are reportedly interested in Andre Miller, according to ESPN.com.

The interest is contingent on J.J. Barea getting shipped at the deadline. The Wolves have been reportedly been trying to deal Barea since all the way back to the summer, so it's still a bit unlikely they can get anything done.

The Grizzlies are discussing a deal with the Timberwolves centered around Chase Budinger and J.J. Barea.

The Grizzlies would like to include Tayshaun Prince and may also include Tony Allen. The Grizzlies have been wanting to add some perimeter shooting and Prince isn't really needed much more for defense with the emergence of James Johnson. None of these players would see much more playing time than they're currently receiving, so there's little reason to pick them up.

Trade for Nate Wolters! smile

He's riding the pine on a terrible Bucks team but puts up good numbers when he plays. When the guards over there were hurt he actually did really well.

Naters gonna Nate!

Not too late to hop on the Wolters band wagon smile Great numbers last night and a big go ahead 3 late in the fourth.

A potential trade sending Tony Allen and Tayshaun Prince to the Timberwolves has "gained momentum," according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

The basic elements of a proposed Wolves/Grizzlies trade has now been reported by multiple sources. If such a deal goes through it might involve Chase Budinger and J.J. Barea going to Memphis, where the solid play of Courtney Lee and James Johnson have made the idea of losing Allen more palatable.

Ricky Rubio worked in L.A. with a shooting coach during the All-Star break.

Wolves coach Rick Adelman and team president Flip Saunders have both encouraged Rubio to look for his shot more aggressively, despite Rubio's 36.1 percent FG shooting. "[if] he becomes a pretty good shooter, he is going to become an elite point guard because of the other stuff he does," Saunders said, alluding to Rubio's 8.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

They went back to looking like they did for the first half of the year. Cant close a game out, even with a big lead. They eed to play a little defense.

the refs let the blazers get really aggresive without calling the game the right way and the wolves just didn't respond...that and the blazers started shooting the lights out of the gym!!!

They give up so many baskets due to lazy defense it's ridiculous. Absolutely no transition defense and it all starts with K Love just standing under his own basket after he thinks he gets fouled but doesn't get the call. I want to see Adelman get in to these guys when they don't hussle back, cause they are giving up easy points in quick time spurts and those big leads they build go right away fast.

Love even when he gets back for defense, he doesnt defend, he just places himself for the rebound. There is a reason he gets so many rebounds.

Martin is worse, he doesnt even try to do anything on defense. He may as well stay under his own basket.

Agreed on Martin. I actually think they have been playing better without him. Not only does he not play a lick of D, the ball get stagnant at times when he is in the game. Most of his offense is 1 on 1, and that just stops all the flow of the offense.

BTW Shabazz had 20 tonight

It was nice to see them comeback and win one. 3 out of 4 after the break, not bad. If they can keep this up, they may sneak in the playoffs, but I wouldnt count on it.

There is no reason we dont keep playing shabazz. He plays hard and isnt intimadated n we have lost the season at this point n if he can be productive n help win when we get pek back we r that much stronger under the basket. That also alows us to keep Martin on the bench!!!

I think Martin would be an ideal scorer off the bench, but Adelman likes him to much to put him there.

Baz hasnt really earned starting time on a competing team, but at this point, we are barely a competing team. We still have hope, and we have a streak going, and it is down to 5 games out of the playoffs right now, plus we have a favoring schedule for the remainder of the season, so I wont rule us out yet. I was really hoping for a quality PG to come into the second half of the season, Rubio isnt ready to be a starter, and JJ isnt ready to start either. Rubio I think would excel on the second unit, with say Martin, Turiaf, Baz/Brewer, and Cunninham.

JJ, while he can be a volume scorer, is to much of a ball stopper, and he likes to dribble to much in the paint.

The main issue is our starters dont care to play any defense. When you have Pek, Love, and Martin on the floor at the same time, nobody try to stop, or guard any shots.

As much as I like Pek, and Love, our team is just terrible on defense when they are both on the floor together. Then adding Martin in with that, really makes us a siv on that end of the floor.

Pek is a stud and should be a starter but when a full healthy squad I think a line-up of Love/Rubio/Brewer/Budingger/Turiaf and a Second unit of JJ/Martin/Cunningham/shab/Pek. This way you have a little D in your lineup with Brew and Turiaf with scoring Love and bud and brewer and the second unit has scoring with strength with Pek/Shabazz against second unit players...

To be honest, Adelman should stage the line ups more, rather then complete squad changes. Try to keep 3 starters on the floor at all times, and alternate them. Then you may not have the high scoring 35 point games in the first, and 15 point games in the fourth. Start swapping starters out every 5 minutes of the game. Keep them fresh, and keep the weak links from playing so many minutes together. Pek and Love really play about the same game, hard under the basket, with Love able to make outside shots, ad Pek to bang underneath. But when you have both in there, they are takig away each others strengths, and they both suck at defense.

I dont think Pek would be to happy with playing the second unit, being he is, has, and deserves to be a starter. Just not alongside Love for so many minutes.

Well if they're gonna make a push for the playoffs it's gotta be now. 8 straight games against teams under .500, and they got it started off good with a win tonight. Good to see Pek and Martin come back strong tonight.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.

My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better

Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
    • Wanderer
Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.

Looking for recommendations on scope or red dot    I basically hunt turkey and whitetail, live in southern MN. So it’s all deer/ shotgun    looking to add a scope/ red dot as my eyes don’t work like they used to to with the open sights.    my gun options are 11/87 12. Browning BPS 12    not looking for the most expensive or the cheapest    pros and cons of one over the other

That's good news. I haven't seen any ice in Black Bay yet, but it looks like the small bays should start to freeze up this weekend. Hopefully we make some ice next week.   Below is the forecast for Cook. We should have temps mostly below zero . The bottom section below shows that it should not be windy, and no snow is predicted. All good signs for making ice.
