wanderer......when you were on winnie you said no snow on the ice correct??? looks like towards the end of next week the weather looks respectable, but with no snow on the ice traction could be dangerous......especially mid week with noone around. liek to get up there but.........

i have cleats but dont think thats an option, especially alone.

We were definitely wearing cleats.  They’re permanent fixtures on our boots right now.

There were a few patches of snow and the wind block of the house and truck would make a drift out of the blowing snow so I had something for a little banking.  Yes, absolutely very slippery.  Even with cleats you have to be careful.  A couple times it was difficult to open the truck door.  No traction to keep my feet planted.

Driving: go slow so you can steer and stop.  I had to use The Gripper cleats on my tires to move the house once.  Otherwise I had a patch of snow to git er moving.

Smurfy, I’ll say I was wearing Yak Trax which are just spiral wrapped wire for gripping.  No good edge for better bite.  I broke my Ice Trekkers that had carbide studs that had a good bite and balanced profile.  We also have the clunky HT cleats that have the steel teeth across the ball of your foot, more or less.   Those might even grip better on bare ice than the Yak Trax?  But are not comfortable to me and get dull.

Without some melting, I hope it blows off.  Could get real slick if it just stays dry powder on the ice.

Well, a recent bout of fish fever has swept through our area causing work on Friday to be cancelled.

My wife said her fever is so bad she had to ice it ASAP.

Real time report on the snow and ice conditions expected tomorrow night.

Holy crap, Jan is missing the boat not having Lingonberry Jam for all the Finlanders up dar!  🙄

If she don't know?

Lingonberry jam is a Scandinavian staple that originates from the northern regions of Europe, where lingonberries grow in the forests of Sweden, Finland, and Denmark

I have no idea what kind of jam Jan might’ve run into for lingonberries.  I just know she hit the mark with the blueberry.

After getting jammed up on the question I had to double check on the bread label to see if it came from the same store.  The bread was from Great Harvest, not Second Harvest.  Second Harvest is the food shelf….  The Great Harvest Bread Company has a location in Waite Park you might want to investigate.

Now, back to work with my cup of Reality Roasters coffee.  It’s budget season.

Thanks for the report, kind of partel to sour dough and found many of the local maidens at market fairs to be a bit better then Great Harvest.

But, back on topic.  Pictures of cooked fish!  😜

Think it was work today, off tomorrow.  Still has to load up and drive up after work?

Just getting settled down now.  The kid and her family plus a buddy and his family came with.  Had to get everyone set up and get a couple pizzas into em.

19 inches of ice.  We drove till we came to crack that had softer ice about 13 inches.  Veered off and spread out on some structure.  One little walleye so far.  One missed.  Half dozen marked.

Good crust of snow about 2-3 inches on the east side.  Getting out toward the main body of water the snow patches and bare ice are about 50/50.  We have about 1/2 - 3/4 inch of snow here.  I’m able to move around without cleats for the set up but need to pay attention.  I’d be comfortable by myself but I’m still used to falling down, so… 😉

Walleyes are mainly a night bite every time we’re here.  First flash bite is 5-6pm then a lull until 9 or 10pm.  Sometimes quiet and sometimes busy all night to the point of pulling lines in the wee hours of the morning so you can sleep a little.  Then, 95% done by 9am.  You hope to get some perch later morning and early afternoon.  That’s WITHOUT moving.  A person can improve by getting more mobile of course.

We don’t spend much time at the lodge but my wife will have a drink while I clean fish.  I think the bloodies are still a thing for most from how many get ordered.  She said she’s not a fan but she’s particular about her bloodies.

It gets to be a busy place!  Seems like it would fun to hang out if fishing wasn’t staring me in the face!

We usually don’t have an issue getting our walleye limit with bonus jumbos, pout and pike.  We’ve seen all that so far in 24 hours but slower than we’re used to and most of our walleyes are either too small to keep or in the 18-23 protected slot.  About equal numbers that way.  But we can’t get to our best spot due to a crack so I don’t know if we could be doing better or not.  Marking fish but today they seemed spooky.  I’m not the only one who commented on that either.  Turn off the lights, and keep your noise down.

That’s actually where we accessed this time.  It was heaved with a goat trail to get through when we came on but somebody reworked it today.  We just went on/off there to check for ourselves.

LOL!

We led the kids off the access but we had to go to HB for our house.  We left it there.  We were gonna drive up and pay the minimum but they were working on the access that night so we hooked up and headed out.  We plan to pay before we leave.  We dropped em some good jing last week.  Close to $300 I think?

Access, bait, propane, drinks and food.

We haven’t used their road at all after leaving with the house.  They did swing by for a welfare check though!  Offered to lead us off the ice but we were just moving.  That was pretty cool - and appreciated.

The new spot produced as much in 2 hours the first spot produced in 2 days.  Pretty bonkers out of the gate!

Don't feel bad. I have a can am. They put the battery in the dumbest hardest place you can put it. Same with there snowmobiles!   Small lake between efen valley and Richmond??? I wouldn't call long small, eden, browns or piertz??😏

Hit a small lake between Eden Valley and Richmond today.  Nothing but 3-4 inch perch.  Fair amount of people out there. My dad's place is on north end of it and he said it has been poor. Even the (fishing guru) that fishes it all the time is not finding them. He said Rice is a zoo. Must be catching some there. Had 15 inches of ice.   My day was worse than last week  ATV battery was dead after running it yesterday.  100 bucks for new one, then I fried it putting it in. It's in a terrible place and my wrench jammed touching both positive and negative.  Wrench got red hot and burnt my hand. Lots of bad words were said. Melted the positive completely.  Went and got another and got it in safely this time.  Maybe I need a new hobby 🤔.
