Correct, I'm on a 96 hr shift now, obviously I can sleep if there's no patients but it's not guaranteed.

Wash those hands folks! Plenty of covid, influenza and norovirus going around. I'm not afraid of any of those viruses currently but who wants to get sick?

@smurfy those deer river workers are union workers, Im a scab working further north. We gave our nurses like a 16%-19% raise this year. They're not union, they're kind, they're good and we appreciate them and take care of them, they've never felt the need to unionize

Aside from a few cracks, Winnie appears to be drivable all over.  I measured 18.5 on the east side today.  I actually drove to the crack going from Tamarack point to the north shore and can confirm it goes all the way to the point.  19 inches a foot from the foot wide crack; 1 inch in the crack.

I see all these vehicles that have dropped in the cracks and am baffled how they can’t see them or attempt to drive over them.  The only other explanation is they’re driving too fast and can’t stop on the bare ice when they finally do see them?

You can go from highbanks now to raven point if you wanted. No cracks there yesterday

Yep.  Planning on being out there this weekend and trying one of last year’s spots that is miles out.  If that don’t pop, there’s the whole dang lake to try and find a new one.

Just finished fresh fish dinner.  Did some in beer batter this time but after dredging in the batter, I rolled in 60/40 mix of seasoned panko and grated parm.

O m g ……. Yes…..

Kona Big Wave was the beer of choice BTW.

Oh man, sorry.  It all happed so fast I didn’t even think of it till it was too late…

I’m contemplating my selfishness over a bowl of Quaker Oats Maple and Brown sugar (made with milk), fresh ground Caribou coffee with half and half, and Second Harvest wheat toast with Gunflint Trail WILD Blueberry jam.

I will try to not talk about food again without photo backup. 😉

wanderer......when you were on winnie you said no snow on the ice correct??? looks like towards the end of next week the weather looks respectable, but with no snow on the ice traction could be dangerous......especially mid week with noone around. liek to get up there but.........

i have cleats but dont think thats an option, especially alone.

I have no idea what kind of jam Jan might’ve run into for lingonberries.  I just know she hit the mark with the blueberry.   After getting jammed up on the question I had to double check on the bread label to see if it came from the same store.  The bread was from Great Harvest, not Second Harvest.  Second Harvest is the food shelf….  The Great Harvest Bread Company has a location in Waite Park you might want to investigate.   Now, back to work with my cup of Reality Roasters coffee.  It’s budget season.

Holy crap, Jan is missing the boat not having Lingonberry Jam for all the Finlanders up dar!  🙄     If she don't know?  Lingonberry jam is a Scandinavian staple that originates from the northern regions of Europe, where lingonberries grow in the forests of Sweden, Finland, and Denmark

Well, a recent bout of fish fever has swept through our area causing work on Friday to be cancelled.     My wife said her fever is so bad she had to ice it ASAP.     Real time report on the snow and ice conditions expected tomorrow night.

Without some melting, I hope it blows off.  Could get real slick if it just stays dry powder on the ice.

It was a gift but you can Jams by Jan here: https://www.boundarywaterscatalog.com/jams-by-jan/gunflint-trail-jams-12557   We were definitely wearing cleats.  They’re permanent fixtures on our boots right now.     There were a few patches of snow and the wind block of the house and truck would make a drift out of the blowing snow so I had something for a little banking.  Yes, absolutely very slippery.  Even with cleats you have to be careful.  A couple times it was difficult to open the truck door.  No traction to keep my feet planted.   Driving: go slow so you can steer and stop.  I had to use The Gripper cleats on my tires to move the house once.  Otherwise I had a patch of snow to git er moving.   Smurfy, I’ll say I was wearing Yak Trax which are just spiral wrapped wire for gripping.  No good edge for better bite.  I broke my Ice Trekkers that had carbide studs that had a good bite and balanced profile.  We also have the clunky HT cleats that have the steel teeth across the ball of your foot, more or less.   Those might even grip better on bare ice than the Yak Trax?  But are not comfortable to me and get dull.
