🤣 got that right..........took him long enough!!!!!!!!🙄 at least i can eat them pike!!!!!!🤗

Wish more people would harvest those small pike to be honest.  No one really seems to be interested in doing it.  Everyone wants walleye or panfish.

They are abundant, over populated, aggressive, and easy to catch.  And the daily bag limit is 10 in most of the state.  I say keep taking all the 21 inchers you want.  They ruin my tackle and bite me off constantly when I'm bass fishing.

I have a friend that pickles and cans them so i do keep a fair amount. I tried to target them last year but then I started marking fish on weedlines and realized they were walleye and switched tactics. I can't even pike fish right 😆

Pickling them is a great way to utilize the resource.  I'm all for it.

Pike are 100 times easier to catch than a walleye.  All you have to do is cast or troll with a flashy and/or vibrating lure and you'll get bit.  Not difficult by any means.  Sometimes I literally can't get my presenation past the pack of teeth so a bass can bite it.  One 20 inch slime dart after the other.  Gets pretty old to be honest.

more curious as to how bad the deer and horseflies are..........i know there will be some skeeters, but........

Summer lull for walleye fishing, still catching them but not always getting limits by any means. Flies are better than a few weeks ago. I have not walked through the woods but boat landings, running trails and in the yard. Few deer flies, in the boat a light spray of bug dope keeps the black flies away.

There was a place just north of us that recently changed ownership.  I was told they were asking  $250,000 for it. They got $225,000. Wasn't much land either.  Shoreline yes, but I'll  say this, Shoreline on the lake we are on is less then premiere Shoreline.

The buildings are nice but not sure I'd pay that.

Waterfront with a habitable building on it is almost a guaranteed $200k+.

Yes! Congrats Kettle!  It’s a great feeling!  I hope it’ll be everything you want it to be.

Lakeshore was kind of out of my price range, less than desirable waterfront is 50k an acre minimum and nice lakeshore is 100k+ an acre. I got just under 7 acres up against state land out in the woods, building about a 1400 sq ft home and 24x36 garage. As maintenance free as possible, clover yard too. Can't be doing chores instead of pestering the walleye. I think we got frost last night

Livin’ the dream!

We had 45 in Little Falls when I woke up this morning.  Been seeing leaves turn yellow for a couple weeks now.  Just got done with a neighborhood walkabout and even some green leaves are letting loose and dropping.

There were some leaves changing when I was at the cabin a couple weeks ago. Headed back up on Monday,  it'll be interesting to see how much more.

The ferns were also starting to get brown.

Shorter beard, one in the green rubber boots. I'd grow it longer but then patients start thinking I'm homeless and not the person there to take care of them. Starting to get a few greys in it too! I'll start fishing a lot more between now and freeze up although I leave for Saskatchewan to crane and duck hunting Saturday

Are you standing on rock - or is your buddy short? 😉

Saskatchewan has always been a place I’d like to go some day.  It might be odd, but it’s stuck in my mind since a book I read in grade school.  And someday I might get my program together enough to get a sandhill.  This October time off is set aside for archery deer in SD.

Good luck!

I'm a little over 6 ft and he's a little more stable to the ground. Wouldn't want to wrestle him.

Saskatchewan is a good trip, we go to an area not typically known for waterfowl but way more birds than MN and less hunters that way

You mean to tell us, that you live in a state where folks sit on a frozen lake ice fishing on a bucket all day. And you don't know what numb nuts are? 🥶 🤣🤣
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the South Shore...  There is still some good ice fishing taking place in a few areas of the lake along the south shore but many resorts and outfitters have pulled their fish houses and called it a year.  Make sure to call ahead or check social media pages for current conditions.     For those still fishing, some are still targeting walleyes.  There has been a good morning / evening bite along the south shore just prior to sunset.  Some very quality fish are being caught.  Some good walleye fishing along Pine Island as they make their way into the Rainy River and various spots along the south shore for those who spawn in the lake.   It was another great week of pike fishing for most.  Fish are starting to transition closer to spawning areas as the days get longer.  A number of big fish tipping that 40 inch mark coming topside.  Suckers, frozen alewife and smelt set about a foot under the ice or just off of the bottom have proven effective.  Most pike anglers are fishing in depths, 9 - 15 feet. On the Rainy River...  The Rain River is still frozen from Nelson Park at Birchdale, MN (30 miles east of Baudette), which is the first full sized boat ramp that opens up, but there is open water appearing and progress has been made.  Things are happening, stay tuned as with the warmer weather, the river should open quickly. A good reminder, as of March 1st, walleyes and saugers are catch and release only on Four Mile Bay and the Rainy River.   Sturgeon fishing.  Once the open water appears, sturgeon are active.  Here are the seasons...   -Catch and Release Season: May 8th – May 15th and October 1 – April 23rd. -Harvest Season: April 24th – May 7th and July 1 – September 30. -Closed Season: May 16th – June 30th. Up at the Northwest Angle...  There is a bit of ice fishing still happening at the Angle, but most resorts have pulled off their fish houses and called it a year.  Call ahead if you plan on getting on that last ice fishing trip as some areas with current are opening up and ice guides will keep you safe.     Fishing remains very good up at the Angle.  The evening bite for walleyes has been super solid.  The pike are active and big, ready to spawn.  Still big numbers of jumbo perch throughout the area.  Very good fishing reports for late ice.  Safety first, please work through a resort or outfitter if you plan on getting out. Plan for the MN Fishing Opener which is Saturday, May 10, 2025! The walleye and sauger season is open through April 14th. Pike fishing never closes, and perch and crappie remain open year-round as well.  You can fish for sturgeon through May 15th.

It's tough to find the etymology of numb nuts. Lots of guesses that it came from the military and/or cycling communities, but nothing definitive. It's meaning has no doubt though...

Goodness. I feel like I'm on some kind of site for the mentally ill sometimes.  🤨 I know he said this but look at the last board printout!  He meant smurfy on April 29th!   8 hours ago, JerkinLips said: Because I temporarily changed the rules, and smurfy was the 2nd person to wager a guess, I changed his prediction to April 25th.   I changed it to just a date numb nuts!  April 25th!
