Temperature thread Ely lakes-any updates

Recommended Posts

I know many lakes were around 40 degrees on the main bodies when the wind would turn up water below last week. When it gets calm surface water was warming up to 52 degrees last week on White Iron. Little wind it would cool down.

Its cold out there going into June when we should be in the low 60's and smallmouth bass should be thinking about spawning.

I had 42-44 degrees Thursday on Burntside. Not surprising, since the ice just went out Sunday/Monday.

Thanks for the info, much appreciate it,

and like I said if you get a little breeze, that cold water which now makes up most of the water column comes to the surface.

The highest I've seen in the last two days was 57 on Shags yesterday during the early afternoon. Last night on White Iron I was seeing 55 and tonight in the same area we were down to 53.5. Farm was down to 53 and dipping into the 52's.

Of course we had a nice cold breeze tonight with clearing skies. Temps will colder Sunday morning with the low overnight temp predicted at 38.

Had 49 degrees on Burntside yesterday afternoon when testing a new locator in a boathouse in a calm bay. Moving into the main water body would most likely drop it into the mid to low 40's.

Will know more today.

It is amazing how much a bay can warm up if the sun is out. Either way both readings are cold.

I've had readings of 48-54 on shallower lakes. Haven't been in clear deep water lakes in a week. However it was cold falling in the lake on da opener.

Kept records for a quite a few years,on a normal year Basswood lake should be 57-60 degrees this week. I don't think it will happen this year. You can get a warm surface reading, but a little wind now would give you temps back into the 40's. Like this last few days. Smallmouth bass spawning a little late this year?

The Dead Sea had 54-57 in areas off the main lake today. The big female wall hangers are hitting bigger than normal crank baits trolled at a steady clip in 10 fow!

This warm weather this last few days should be warming things up? Maybe bulrushes will start popping up along shore soon?
