Went out this morning and nailed the walleyes! It was a typical minnesota opener, windy, snowy and cold... But it was worth it to get out. full-37256-33009-image.jpg

Fished a local river from the bank today. The eyes were stacked in the slack current. Mostly males but did get a couple females. Females still had eggs. Fun day of fishing! smile

Nice stringer mike. I went for a early season swim yesterday morning on some crusty ice on the edge. Will try and redeem myself today.

Tougher fishing on the northwest end of the lake. I still got a few eyes and a nice northern for my efforts. It was fun boating around amongst the ice. It's days like Saturday and Sunday that you appreciate walking back into a warm cabin vs a cold tent

Hey Skunked,

Was that you Sunday in a boat running around? Saw a boat motoring around down toward the open water north of my dock. (I think it's north:).

Nice fish Mike. Glad to see you went somewhere else on the opener and got into the walleyes. I did go back down to Van Vac later on Saturday to make sure you and your friends wern't floating away.

Quite likely. I was fished the channel each day but didn't make it towards your dock until Monday morning. I was in my little blue & white papa smurf boat. There were only five boats total in Black Bay over opening weekend so it's possible you saw me

Watch out. I arrive on Monday. Be Tuesday and just as bad.

Just a word of thanks for all the ice reports, fishing plans, bait crises, and things like Del helping us save the Comet.... All those things that kept me entertaining while fiddling with the boat and pacing around in the garage instead of being up there fishing! I still have ten days or so of obligations before we move to the island. Latest start in years, but sure looking forward to it! See ya all after the Memorial Day rush.

Thanks everyone for helping the comet. I believe this group helped put it over the top.

Which Island you headed for? We are going up soon, since it is now safe to run the water. Wife isn't too happy with no water.

Running water is a good thing! We abide on Black Duck Island, east end of Fraser Bay. I'm hoping our dock goes in the next few days. I'm finishing some work here in Des Moines but anxious to be there! Heaven on earth.

Hey RLG, yesterday, my wife and I got out for a couple hours in the afternoon. The first walleye of the season came 10 minutes after we started. It was a 20"er and I was looking right at Black Duck Island when I released her. wink

Drive safely on the way up.

Good Fishing,

MarkB smile

The northeastern Minnesota river walleyes are wrapping up the spawn. Off to Tuscarora with the flyrod for the weekend.

Mark,

You're fishing in my hole! Let me guess, about 26 feet deep on the drop off? We sit up on the hill, SW end of the island. I'll look for you when we get up there. Glad they're biting.
