For those of us that have to work today, give us your opener reports! Were they shallow or deep?

Ended up with two. One 14, the other 18.5. The wind is horrible. Had to go to a lake that had a north side access. both were caught in six to eight feet of water, trolling cranks. Talked to a lot of people that didn't have any luck. I didn't see any fish caught besides our 2.

Not a bite. On water at 11:30. Calm. Air and water surface temp 56. Sporadic light showers. 1:00 the wind kicked up and temp dropped. Spray coming in boat bad while moving from spot to spot. Did not even mark many fish. 1:30 we had had enough. Nothing but 2 broken off snags. Maybe back out tonight if the wind lays down a little.Southern Chisago county.

I wasn't able to go but my buddies caught a dozen or so 15-20" off a dock in 3' of water. Not sure what temp the water was.

Got skunked on Tetonka and got a 5lb pike on Madison. Talked to other fisherman at both landings and no one even had a bite. Never saw one net come out on either lake. I always pick the wrong lakes! Gonna try midweek with those south winds.

Ended up going out midnight Friday. My buddy cancelled at the last minute so I ended up shore fishing Madison instead of taking out the boat (I was nervous about the high winds we were supposed to get). I only fished one hour. 1st half hour it was calm and perfect. There were fish rolling all around me but it was too dark for me to tell what they were. I missed 2 and then caught 1 huge bullhead before the gail force winds kicked up and started blowing my stuff over on shore! I decided to come back and try another day only fished until 1 am.

ended up catching close to 15 eyes on Saturday on Washington. Just ended up anchoring in about 26'. Wind was out of control. Lots of 10-12" eyes though, and all caught between 10am-12pm of all times. Still was a good time and at one point I was the only boat in the area, had to double check my calendar to make sure it was really opener!

It was especially fun on my way back through the narrows when the waves were crashing over the bow! It was a good day though!

I did not get out but my bro-in-law and a friend decided to stay off the water and fish the shore of a local creek (which shall remain nameless) that runs through an area town. They limited-out on walleyes in two hours and got two hefty bonus pike, as well. I saw the pics as proof.

I gave him a hard time about it because he usually spends hundreds to go to Gull every year and couldn't this year due to the ice. Turns out he could just leave home after lunch on opener, drive 10 minutes, fish and be home for fish fry supper for free.

Just goes to show that down south is a good as up-north if your willing to explore a little and try some new tactics.

Slow on the river for opener, BUT we did end up with a 20", a 23" and my buddy got a 29.5" eye right before we were about to leave! Mix in couple channels and a sheep and it turned out to be a pretty fun opener with a few pictures to show for it. all fish released. The river was definantly the place to be with the wind, wasnt too bad in most places. Morning was EXTREMELY slow, no fish caught until around 2pm and we started at 5:30 am.

The 20 and 23 were totally spawned out and skinny as a rail, looked like they were just starting to eat. The 29.5 was healthy as can be and looked like it never stoped eating.

All in all a pretty darn good day

Fished the Waterville area on opener weekend. Plenty of wind to contend with, almost filled the boat with water, that made for fun time.

Spent the better part of the weekend hitting spots from shore, no walleyes for me. Got into a few decent pike, they were shallow and all sorts of fiesty. And one big ol' dogfish on an ultralight with 4lb test.
