Trolling motor junk yard?

lotsofish

Question

I have an older Minn Kota bow mount trolling motor. It's a 795mx and it has the electronic power steering.

I need a new part for it. The drive housing motor (the electric motor that controls the steering) is pretty much siezed up and has to be replaced. I'm having a hard time locating a new one. The part number is 2307030 and alternate part number is 2777040, but what I've found is both are discontinued and I haven't been able to find any place with old stock.

Is there anywhere that sells used trolling motor parts or some other way I can track down one of these parts?

The parts are obsolete. The only way to get them is buying another used motor.I have one, also the same little white motor siezed up.I took it apart and cleaned it up and got it working.I also have 3 kotas here that arent working I believe the boards are shot. They are also obsolete and can't be found.Do you want to contact me and get that little motor? PM me.

Moderators can I give out my email address??

Well... I broke it for good. Long story short, I used some electronic sensor cleaner (basically alcohol in an aerosol can) to clean out some of the grim. After letting it all dry and adding a little oil, it started spinning with pressing the pedal. I put it all back together, but it only kind of worked. It spun but you could tell it was under a lot of load. I tried to turn it both ways a couple times to see if it would loosen up at all, and within a minute something overheated in the foot pedal and it burnt out the left turn switch.

It's not worth trying to find parts for a 20 year old trolling motor.

On the plus side, I was checking out Cabelas.com and found that they have a new Minn Kota on sale for $429 (was $589) PLUS an additional 30% bonus credits when you use your Cabelas card. That's almost 50% off. Too good of a deal to pass up and my new trolling motor will be here in 3-5 business days. smile

Better yet wait for your wedding anniversary and buy it for your wife. She wont want it so you keep it. It is killing two birds with one stone.

Funny that you mention that. My anniversary was yesterday.

"Guess what hunny. You just bought me an anniversary present!"
