Tips for Little Rock opening day....

Recommended Posts

Found some eyes early ice this year. Was wondering on how the bite can be with the cold water this year. Normally spend the opener on the chain or in the Willmar area. Thought about pulling cranks from hwy 10 to the south end of the lake. Never been on the the lake open water.

It is one of the more shallow lake in the area, so that should help it warm just a bit faster than some or the deeper bodies of water. I would look to the shoreline breaks and the river channel should also be holding fish. If we get a good wind from the same direction all week pay attention to the shoreline it has been crashing into. My best advice would be work shallow, and if all else fails head out to the 10-12ft depths

I've had luck in the past working from Benton beach west back to the river inlet. Crawlers and lindy rigs. With cold temps though cranks may be the best option with a sloe presentation. The first break in 5/7' of water was best

Thanks for the info. I got a little rock pile in mind to start off with and then who knows. Would much rather go to the chain but trading paint to get up river just isnt for me this year.

Not all the walleyes will be in the river wink but yes, it will be nuts on the chain.

You should still do pretty well on Little Rock, it's always had a good population of 'eyes. Good luck!

Just a new lake to be on open in the soft water season. I know what and where the chain will produce. Will be on the water around 3am so i gues we will see what happens. Half the fun is the hunt for them any how.
