Opener Predictions

Recommended Posts

Ok, since I don't even want to think about ice out dates! confused Let's get some predictions on how big will the biggest piece of ice be floating around lake Bemidji opening morning? How many boats will be busted up running into ice chunks at midnight? And how many thousands of walleyes will be caught and killed in the narrows between Irving and Bemidji opening weekend?

Going to be an interesting opener... Forecast isn't looking good for ice melting temps either..

theres not any massive warm up in the 2 week. barring a big change in the end of april, its looking like a may ice out this year.

i can't remember the year, but i would say roughly 5-6 years ago bemidji was half ice on opener.

I think it was 08, I was a little north of that area fishing around the ice sheets grin Looks like this year might be similar.

I remember that year. We stood on shore and casted to the ice sheet, when the jig would drop off the edge it was fish on. Poor walleyes if that's the case again... channel will be stacked. frown

As of right now that's the plan, ice fishing for opener. 31 days to go and that becomes reality. My buddy on the lake we usually open on can't get his auger through as of last night, he had to chisel the last 6-8" or so. I was there 2 weeks ago with him and he said absolutely nothing really has changed at all since then. And here comes a layer of wet snow this week. So saturday is the 13th, we'll have 27 1/2 days to get rid of the ice, it'll have to go quickly. Heck we could still drive to our fishing spots on the ice, we choose to walk it, man last spring vs. this spring what a deal.
