Lake conditions/tips in the BWCA?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if the lakes up there will be thawed out by the fishing opener? May 15th, a couple of my buddies and I are taking our first trip up there. I believe we are going to start out on Liz lake-Entry point 47... Any good fishing tips for the surrounding area?

It doesn't look promising for ice off by the opener on the larger lakes with these current temps and 14 day forecast. confused

This can all change with a warming spell, (40's-50's around the clock) and some rain. laugh

You still have about 36 days left to pray! frown

In 20 years we've only had ice on Saganaga once for fishing opener. Sag is usually one of the last lakes to lose it's ice on the Gunflint Trail. We're not losing ice at night, 7 degrees at 7 this morning but it doesn't take too much sunshine, warm weather and wind to make it go quickly.

The smaller lakes like Lizz should be off by opener and Poplar too. Of course there is no guarantee:)

All the best,

Sue
