And if the Twins hadn't signed Mauer, everyone would be

yelling and scraming that the Twins never keep the

good ones....I can remember people complaining when

the old heros like Killer and Herbie would strike out.

Jeepers, bench them or trade them. Or Frankie V. would

give up a dinger.

Lighten up folks..Billy Smith ruined the team and Ryan is

trying to work some magic to get them back.

In my opinion, we are ahead of last year, and by the way...Kansas

City is way ahead of last year. They just might surprise everybody. KC took off at the end of last year and looks for real.

There are enough sticks on the Twins to get hitting again.

And look at the good side, no Pavano, Baker or Blackburn or Valentia or Casilla or Butera. Things have to get better.

Not only has Mauer not been hitting, his defense has been terrible as well. Seems like if it's in the dirt it's going to the back stop. On top of that his situational hitting has been bad. Twice last series he came up with no outs and a guy on 2nd and hit lazy fly balls to left. All he has to do is put it on ground to the right side and we have a guy on 3rd with 1 out. I know he isn't a pull hitter, but he was getting inside pitches and just putting lazy fly balls to left. Oh and both times Willingham flew out for useless outs that would have been sac fly's had Mauer advanced the runner.

all aspects of there game is bad now, they need to get it going in the homestand. playing the mets may help at home, with the NL team needing a DH.

the last game was very bad, bases loaded in the 1st and 2nd innings, and no runs, bases loaded and no outs, and no runs is unacceptable.

I predict that hicks strikes out in the first inning Friday. sick

yelling and screaming that the Twins never keep the good ones....

Current practices of the Twins org. doesn't produce good players. They (players) need to leave for another team to show their worth. Another team that will bench them for lackluster play.

IMO baseball has become too much of a gentleman's game. Especially the Twins where people like Mauer aren't held accountable. Light a fire under their a$$ or get rid of them.

The problems are the guaranteed contracts. They need to make it so you are able to walk out from a contract if the player decides he has his money now, no sense practicing, and trying to better myself.

That darn Mauer, struck out again last night. If you can't go 5 for 5 for that kind of money what good are you?

Wow that florimon dude is bad at ss. Ploofy is probably liking that there's a worse infielder than him on the roster.

Mauer will be fine and he is now maiking better contact. The dude will contend for another batting title and will be on one of the worse teams in baseball. He is still one of the best hitters in baseball no matter what we say on here. His RBI's might be less this year because there will be less guys on for him (hope I'm wrong). I would bet he will be over .330 this year. This year batting in the two spot he might meet that 200 hit mark.I think they said he would get around 20 or so extra at bats this year batting there.

I have to give props to Joe Mauer, the past 2 nights are big reasons we won the game. My thing with Joe is and was yes top 5 hitter in baseball, but do those hits actually help us to win like if he's 2-5 in a game .400, but do those hits contribute to a win or a chance to win often times he isn't the best hitter of that ballgame meaning coming through to help us win like he's doing, he swung with authority and confidence, not defensively, liked it a lot. Now back to focusing on snow geese ! Before I go though, Joe is doing well when you think of the big picture, now married, twins on the way which is way cool, etc. Lots more on his mind and he's still separating ball and family very well. He turns 30 tomorrow which is another medium big change when you leave your 20's. Back to White Geese.

it's like mauer is toying with the angels pitchers. they get him to two strikes, and then mauer falls off a couple pitches, takes a pitch or two, and then laces a liner somewhere.

Well, at least they didn't loose, and that's always good. So for tonight anyway, we Twins fans can hold our heads high grin

Yes, the Twins won 2 from Chicago. Bout one of the worst teams in baseball.

Glad to see Mauer hitting so well but thats about all the Twins have.

Looks like the White Sox'a could be the last place team and the Twins a bit ahead of them in 4th. Chicago has nothing.

High water mark yet? 8-7, 0.5 games outta first? Or 4-2, first place?

It will probably come after a terrible Miami team comes to town. Then I don't see .500 again. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't think the Sox are one of the worst teams in baseball. They have great starting pitching. I think the Twins will have a much better record than last year because the rotation looks at least respectable and last year it was the worst I've ever seen. They had a good bullpen last year, this year it looks even better.

bingo da chise and Harvey I don't think he's had a hit since, his .289 should be lower he got 2 hometown discount hits that were errors really. Been pretty ugly.

Have only watched 1 twins game unfortunately this year, what is the April barometer telling us about this crew ? Mauer is 2-26 in his last 7 games and ranks tied for 15th in RBI by MLB catchers. Morneau hasn't really been much better. 38 million per year to these 2 guys, left handers, former MVP's, all I can say is by the end of May I better not be able to re-type this, I'd like to see 1 of them mentioned in the league leaders by the end of May, top 10 anyway. Mauer has the best chance with batting ave. The ? is if we said both were available would any team pick up their contracts, if not then I can't wait for their deals to be done so we can improve the team and maybe make a playoff run again. We'll keep Perkins as our MN connection. They're both healthy they'll bounce back won't they ? Until they get hurt most likely.

Check this out. Miguel Cabrera/Prince Fielder combined are hitting .333, 195 at bats, 36 runs, 65 hits, 12 doubles,1 triple 11 Jacks, 38 strikouts, 56 RBI's and a steal. Our 2 studs are hitting .271, 181 at bats, 20 runs, 49 hits, 10 doubles, 4 jacks, 19 rbi's and 29 K's. So lumbering Prince and Miggy have scored 16 more runs, 16 more hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 7 more jacks, .62 in batting average and 37 more rbi's. And we might as well forfeit when Verlander is on the mound. If we add up our M and M numbers combined they wouldn't be leading in the league in any category, I just find that disgusting, sorry.

Flea Market Luck

A Pennsylvania man purchased a painting for $4 at a local flea market. He liked the frame and thought he could restore it. When he couldn’t restore the frame to its original luster, he nearly tossed the frame and painting into the trash. Instead, he took the painting out of the frame and discovered an old folded up piece of paper behind it. He had found one of 24 known copies of the Declaration of Independence, which were used to spread the good news around the country.

The historic document sold at auction for $2.42 million to an Atlanta businessman.

Sometimes that garbage stuff is pretty valuable....

I don't know how this team has managed to stay near .500 so far other than good bullpen pitching. It sure feels to me that they could be 10 games under quite quickly though. Thought coaching staff and media wasn't worried about the offense but its been quite offensive so far.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
