Would the guys who are getting out mind giving a running account of ice conditions?

Thx

maxed out my jiffy auger a week ago without an extension. was also roughly 5 inches of snow on top. was out a couple days ago and noticed that it is a layer of slush then a half inch of ice then 2 inches of snow then ice. shorelines are the first things to go though, so truck travel could be risky. these were both on small lakes without an access

was out yesterday, 2 inches ice 2 inches of water then 22 inches more ice. Somehow I dont think this ice is going to hold up as long as some think. It does not drill or look as good as I thought it should. Still cant find fish either.

The ice is fine and once the snow and slush melt, the fish will be in the shallows. Ice will be here for a while guy's.

  • 3 weeks later...

Checked a few smaller lakes in the area yesterday. Finally some slush and water on the edges for about 20ft. Should be ready by opener hopefully

Does not take much to drill a hole in the lake I was at. Only the bottom 4 inches acts like real ice. I do believe that with the temps that are forecast it will go fast. Weather guy and some others says its sunshine more than anything that makes ice go bad. We have not had much of that. Hope the weatherman is right with the upcoming forecast!
