Lots of guys out there this weekend. Only fished for a short time but broken line talked to half the lake and didn't find anyone catching anything. Marked a lot of fish and the guys with cameras said there are a ton of crappies down there, just not biting hot and heavy. By Chapman's it is driveable but hardly if you pull a hard house.

Once this snow cover drops a bit those fish will start to go a bit better. Even though it

middle of March the fishing conditions are like February, no river flow, dense snow cover, cold temps, etc.

Well the ice in the bay is still about 3' thick and no one was getting anything on Sunday. I would give it a few more weeks of warmer weather to melt down a bit before wasting your time. frown

Man when I went by there on Sunday it only looked like one or two houses out there as compared to the 20 or so out on Isle. Was that you in one of them on Wahkon? grin

Wahkon does not get hit as hard as isle, but I have caught more fish in wahkon the in isle bay. I also like to be away from the crowds. Once the ice comes off the boat habors can be good. Same with the little bays on the west northwest side of the lake. wink

Is it still driveable on Isle or Wakhon Bay? Don't have a atv or snowmobile.... Any info would be appreciated! Thanks....

The ice is almost 3 feet thick yet, but you have to stay on a road or get stuck in the slush.

No worries if you dont want to drive out. More then likely you will have to pay the access fee but it is not a long walk. Wahkon can be but you dont need to walk that far to start catching fish.

Thanks monster, this time of year I usually pull out my little plastic sled and folding chair and huff it even though there still is enough ice! wink

Wasted my day by going to isle bay today mad What a slushy mess the lake is! Caught 1 tiny little perch, marked a couple fish, but nothing. Talked to a few other guys, they didn't catch anything either, also didn't see anyone catch anything. Every hole I drilled or found was 5 ft deep, is that the depth everyone fishes? Perhaps the cluster of people are ontop of a hole that's a bit deeper? If the shoreline ice allows for it, I'll give it another try next week.

JB Isle bay is shallow for the most part. The fish spoke easily there. I have only caught a few fish in Isle bay but they were all big crappies. Wahkon is ba better shot at gills and crappies they may not be as big.

I don't suppose there's any free access points to wahkon bay? I pulled up to the veterans park and would've much rather fished there than isle, but I wasn't about to pay $10.

We used to walk out from the park. If we were driving out we paid the 10 bucks, but walking out we used the park shore line.

Is the snow and ice melting off at all up there? Thinking about making a run up there but don't know if its still to early or not. I like the late ice bite

I was up on Isle yesterday and the snow is still there only now hard as the ice. I went right to the end of my strike master and just barely punched through. No fish lots of lookers lighting up the marcum but threw the tackle box at them and nothing would bite. Some stable weather and some more melting might turn them on but it's going to be a while. Also the sun will soon start to melt the shoreline and that will be the end of ice fishing. A lot of the small lakes around will soon not be accessible at the shoreline.

Im surprised people are still actually trying to catch crappies out of Isle bay. Never was many of them and probably never will be. Way to many preditors in the bay for many offspring to make it. A lot of other lakes around where you might actually catch some.

Was out this weekend, plenty of ice but no where to drive on. I don't think any of the resorts were letting people drive, it's not to bad of a walk out to where to fish. The crappies were few and far in between an the few we caught were right at first light and right as it was getting dark. The day bite is almost worthless

Lake Shakopee- two miles away from isle bay, full of slab pannies.
Other then you have to have a State park sticker and it seems to have more Black, Brown & Yellow Bullheads in it then anything looking at the DNR site.

well yes there are bullies in there but there are nice crappies and sunnies also you don't need a state park sticker to fish there as it is a DNR boat landing

I've fished that lake summer and winter and it was bullhead heaven, or small dinks average size about 5 inches? Must be me?

oh when the window of oppurtunity opens up on Shakopee it can be fun but the window may only open for a short period of time...I have had poor days out there and I have days that were awesome out there.
