How to access lower Prior by foot?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, hoping you can help me out here.

The only vehicle I have is not capable of making it on to the lake (little 2 door coupe with no ground clearance and no 4 wheel drive) so I'm forced to hoof it on to lakes.

What's the best way for me to access lower Prior by foot so that I can get into some panfish action? Is sand beach point my only option? I heard you can't park anywhere near the sportsman's access.

If sand beach point is my only option, are any decent spots within walking distance from there even?

Thanks!

Parking around Sportsmans access is definately limited. There are a few areas but if you do park there make sure you are not in a no parking zone or you will get a ticket. Walking from Sand Point isnt bad. Once on the lake go left (north) around the point then and good fishing spot is not too much farther from there. Not sure of exact distance but its really not a bad walk, done it a bunch of times myself. 16-22 ft for gills and some crappies.

Awesome, thanks so much for the response. Would you suggest making my way north of the little island, or staying on the south side of it?

Got stuck pretty bad in my Subaru and got pulled out by another Subaru, this guy had front chains, illegal on roads here but work great on lakes I guess.

Or fish a lake where everyone has to walk, it makes walking easier and the fishing can be better.

Good Luck

I would suggest upper prior. Less of a hoof to get out there. Only need to walk about 100yrds out.

100 yards out from the Upper Prior access? That's not a common area to fish...do you know something we don't, Dr.?

Maybe it's a little further out there but it's not a haul or anything. 300 yards at most to get to the first break in front of the island. Plus the access parking lot is right on the lake. Way easier than hoofing it from the sand point parking lot or parking on the road by sportsmans. All of this is a mute point now because if its not already froze solid it will be by tomorrow morning. Still very drivable ice out there.
