"Trophy" Eye

If it was common to catch a 30 inch walleye,it wouldnt be considered a trophy...Most will fish a life time and not catch one...

I’ve landed a fair number of 28 + in the last two years.

I’ve been fishing ML most of my life and only have 2 over the 30 mark in 25 + years. My biggest to date was last year, she measured out a little over 31, The pic is kind of Shattey. It was raining and getting dark , I quick taped it twice, took one photo and let this big girl go.

So much for getting a graphite made, time for a better camera.

I caught two 28's and a 29 last summer. Catching a 27 on the pond is common. I have had days where my boat has landed 5 to 6 27-27.5 inchers.

All those 25-27 wont necessarily GET bigger. Truth is some of those 27's you catch could be OLDER than that 29 you put in the boat. On Mille Lacs getting that big is all about individual genetics, not age. My buddy caught a 25 inch tagged walleye last year that was a 16 year old female. That thing was tagged when it was 9 and 23.5 inches. That fish grew 1.5 inches in 7 years. No way that fish is even reaching 27 before it dies of old age.

My personal best came on mille lacs last winter and it went 29.5". It wasnt all that fat though. We catch a lot of 24-26 inchers but only fish it a couple times a year.
